Somalia: Somali Chief Justice Warns FGM Practicing Families

Somali chief justice Ahmed Ali Dahir has vowed to bring before the law those families he said force their girl child on FGM. Dahir was speaking during International Women's Day event in the capital Mogadishu. He said the government considers the traditional practice illegal both in the law and Islamic sharia used in the country. FGM is widely practiced among the majority Somali community in the recuperating war torn country.
