At the beginning of this year, there was a public outcry in Uganda as to why the renowned Makerere University, one of Africa's oldest universities responsible for producing some of Sub-Sahara's outstanding intellectuals and post-African independence political leaders, dropped from African university ranking position number 18 in 2006 to position 54 in 2007.
