IT should be of particular interest to Zimbabweans, whose government had in 2007 to import 400 000 tonnes of maize from Malawi, to know how the latter was able to produce a bumper maize harvest of 1,5 million tonnes when the former "bread basket" of Southern Africa could account for a mere 1,3 million tonnes during the 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 agricultural seasons.
