As crude oil prices hit a record high, the Malawi government has launched a project to ensure that all vehicles in the country switch to the cheaper and greener alternative fuel - ethanol - in a few years.

Its a great idea to go green, and to use your waste products to generate ethanol. Judging from a quick on-line search, Malawi also has a very large resource base of Typha and Phragmites, both of which have been successfully used for ethanol. Typha is also a major source for food, when grown in clean water and soil. Those parts that cannot be made into ethanol or food, can be made into charcoal or gasified for fuel. Right now, these plants are just a nuisance. Harvest them and cultivate them as a resource.
