Congo-Kinshasa: UN Rights Expert Raises Alarm About Human Rights Abuses in Country - UN News Service

Raising alarm about abuses in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), especially the volatile eastern region, an independent United Nations human rights expert is calling for measures to protect civilians there.

I just want to express my gratitude for your story on human rights abuse in DRC. I am founder of an organization dedicated to the preservation of the Mountain Gorilla, a critically endangered species who live only in that region of the world so I am very aware of the problems that face the people of that region as well. I have been trying to bring media attention to the horrible situation happening in DRC in the hopes that if more people were aware, maybe more can be done to help facilitate change. I have written to government officials in the USA begging them to please intervene, and to news media as well, asking them to please report more media coverage about this troubling situation. People of the world need to be aware. I thank you for this report and hope other news media heed your example and give more coverage to this cause as well. Deborah Horskey NJ, USA
