Chad: Dual Peacekeeping Mission Seeks to Dispell Confusion - UN Integrated Regional Information Networks

With Chadian rebel groups constantly changing, inter-communal fighting frequently breaking out, and tension with neighbouring Sudan increasing, some humanitarian officials in Chad fear the planned presence of simultaneous UN and European Union (EU) police and military forces will only add to the confusion.

This confusion as noted which will definitely result in further destabilization of the region with all the negative consequences for the civilian population raises the question "What is the efficacy of using military force or the army to solve political problem"? Going by the experience in the Congo that has had the UN forces on its soil from 1960, military force has shown no positive effect at solving the problem. Another example is the Sudan/Southern Sudan civil war. The solution to the problem was found only through civil negotiation. Another example is the Northern Ireland civil war that was solved only through negotiation. There is a hunch that some countries that are always pushing for military solutions to political problems mostly in African countries have motives not in the interest of those African countries.
