retain the presidency and power at all cost despite losing to the
opposition. thus the tallying wopuld be manipulated adequately just to give
an apparent win to Kibaki, who would then be swiftly sworn-in asa the
elected president with all the power that goes with it. Thus with the state
resources and instruments of coercion at his disposal, he would be able to
to fight and resist and eventually overcome any challenges - from within
and without - to his legitimacy. How long can these protests last?
Experience abound in Africa and elsewhere in the third world where
illegitimate leaders of governments have 'successfully' ridden out such
protest storms and condemnation from within and without. Kibaki can do the
same - sit or ride out the storm of protest which, with time would wane die
