Peace talks between the opposition Orange Democratic Movement(ODM)and the president Mwai Kibaki are very much commendable if they are going to give an immediate positive solution to the current crisis in Kenya. However, the president should stop making irresponsible public statements claiming that he was "DEMOCRATICALLY" elected when everyone the World over is fully convinced that he rigged the elections in broad day light which does not need a rocket scientist to determine.Mr Odinga should however not fall into the trap of the government as what happened in Zimbabwe should be a lesson to every opposition party in Africa-Mr Mugabe setting an election date when Mbeki is still negotiating a solution on behalf of SADC and the African Union. We want peace, freedom, democracy, government accountability, human rights observance and transparancy in Africa.
What can one possibly say to make a difference? Just as so many other Kenyans I feel deeply resigned to a hopeless situation.
Kenyans and Africans in general need to realise that we have ourselves to blame for opening our beloved country and continent to every manipulation from all around us. The day that Kenyans(and Africans) will realise that we must guard and protect the abundant natural resources the continent has; that will be the day that we will stand together as one country, one continent, one race, and put our interests first.
Until then, I predict that we will continue ruining our continent, in the name of politics, tribalism, religion, and whatever else that is thrown at us, as we are too shortsighted to see the bigger picture. I pray that there are Kenyans and Africans out there of the same mind as I have. I pray that I live to see that day.
