It is unfortunate that the so-called Nigerian Senate and the House of Representative have been in operation for about nine months without achieving anything concrete. From what happened in the past eight years, the NASS should have taken a queue to make laws, but have sat there as laying ducks. By this time, laws should have been passed about religious intolerance and false claims by fundamentalist religious zealots. This is not the first time that a moslem has accused a christian falsely, and no serious punishment was metted on the moslem culprit. The Nigerian government and the security officials should be blamed for all these problems. If the problems created by these moslem zealots were created by the MOSOP, MEND, or the MASSOB, the Nigerian military machines would have been rolling. Almost forty years after the civil war, the country remains more divided, hateful and indeeded more aparthied than South Africa. If what the press in Nigeria said was accurate, if the young christian lady felt that she does not want the relationship any more, why should that be an issue? Why should the moslem man accuse her falsely,of desecrating the koran, simply because she does not want a relationship with him any more? Why should'nt the moslem man be prosecuted, and imprisoned for life? In my own opinion, NYSC should be scrapped because it has outlived its purpose. The NYSC was established in 1973 to foster unity among Nigerians, but this notion has been far from the case; especially after the last eight years of a shameless regime that made hatred and aparthied a corner stone of its domestic policy.
