Perhaps BTV and The Voice should not feel too threatened by the presence of the BBC World Service, concerned that it may undermine Botswanian national identity. I am Canadian and I am -- and have been for forty years -- inundated by programming from the USA. Yet this same television has made me feel more Canadian, rather than blur any sense of nationalism. It has only served to make me/us feel even more Canadian.

Certainly BTV must carry local content and news, but to completely eliminate a foreign news service strikes me as misguided identity-seeking. For a sense of place in the world, one must be informed of the world. And to this end, the BBC is in my mind very balanced and complete.

Besides, if you get rid of the BBC World Service, you may eventually just end up with CNN.

Long live Bots!

i think BTV and The Voice should seriously feel threated about this issue because as Batswana we have to show our talents, culture and everything that our precious and lovely country has.So BTV is ok it must totally remove BBC World service.

I think it is ok for BTV to deliver BBC world service or CNN or CCTV to Botswanian.
