SUCH is the sheer incompetence of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) that this cabal of bunglers should not even be allowed to run a bath.

I am very much suprised to learn that the process of selecting the African footballer of the year is so scrappy. In as much as I do appreciate the Kanoute award, I am equally disappointed to learn that Drogba was already informed that he won the award.
What is actually becoming of our Continent. Does it mean we cannot organize anything that is free of corruption?
If Drogba cannot go to Togo because he was so loyal to his country, I see no reason why he could not be awarded in absential.
There is no doubt that Drogba is the most appropiate African Footballer of the year. the whole world knows it. If he missed it just because he failed to go to Togo, then the whole process is a complete mess. I see no reason why those awarding officials should be put in such positions of trust.
I would like to encourage Drogba to ever remain loyal to his country just like Kanoute deciding to play for Mali instead of France.
To all Africans, put your nations interest first. Bravo Drogba.
I am african.. though i left africa as a young man.. i am deeply attached to the Continent of my ancestry.. every time i read these kinds of stories about Africa it really pains me... I cannot think of anything left sacred and devoid of corruption in Africa and it is just frustrating... The President of CAF should resign immediately, he is a shame for anyone who cares about this continent and the African Press should aggressively pursue this.. not so much for the fact of the story but for the symptom that it represents.. Corruption, unaccountability, incompetence and the sheer arrongance of virtually anybody in Africa in a position of responsibility.. This goes beyond football but illustrates that as soon as someone in Africa acquires power.. he forgets that he is there to serve the people, the organization he is entrusted to, not to serve himself.. as the result a bunch of little despots at every level, however small, are running institutions in Africa and none is left untouched by this scrouge of a behavior.. that is what hails Africa.. Later last month i heard the President of CAF say regarding Europeans Clubs complaints about the January dates of the bi annual ACN Cup he said.." ..the dates will not change as long as I am president of the CAF.." At the time i thought, what an incompetent piece of garbage this guy is.. instead of working with the European clubs ( who by recruiting African players make the players better and therefoore benefit the organization he chairs) he is looking at it in such a stubborn way as an attempt at challenging his god given right to be president of this inept, corrupt and incompetent organization.. but then again he reflects the philosophy of virtually anybody in a position of power in Africa from Mubarak in the North to Mugabe in the south.. all throughout the continent.. the only sufferers are the average africans struggling to make ends meet.. Shame and pitiful and the Press should not let it die
This is the way we run our football and it's a shame. Drogba himself should shut up, lately he's acting like a future politician and is talking too much than playing football. This problem should be sorted out indoors instead of coming out publicly and put african football in this shame.
What kinds of comment is this. What kind of political post is Drogba running for? President of Africa? That would be the most corrup institution on the whole planet.
How does your comment relate to the story at hand. The point is CAF is run by corrupt, incompetent and shameless people... You are saying this is OK because Drogba is using his popularity in his home country to promote peace among its inhabitants just coming out of a civil war... and you deduct from that that it is ok for cup to be incomptent.. if you represent the average african than the continent is doomed.. no wonder so many africans are leaving that poor continent
This is a shame for Hayatou. I hope it is not true. We are trying to support CAF from being imposed by Europeans on how to schedule the African Cup of Nations. It is sad if this is how the federation is run. However I do not agree that French speaking countries can impose anything. There is a good number of English and Arabic speaking countries that can oppose any colonial related mentality or policy. As Africans we should not care about which European language we use as they are all a colonial legacy. What is important is what we learn by using them. I am loosing interest in African football because most countries want to maintain the bad tradition of hiring non African coaches and not putting a single player from African leagues in their national teams. If coaches have to be Europeans maybe CAF and other African federations should also be run by Europeans to perform well. Finally it may also be good to replace many African presidents and ministers by Europeans. Inefficacity is not in football coaching only as those nearsighted African governement officials who worship Europe want us to think. 50 years of independences prove that what they have achieved is a work of single digit IQ charltans.
