Now facts are trickling out about the actual power expenditure during the last administration. The myth about the $16 published in almost all the newspapers in the country is now turning out to be nothing more than a propaganda campaign to discredit the former administration mainly because it came out very boldly to try to put an end to the endemic corruption problem that has been menacing the country since independence. One wonders if the newspapers and even the speaker of the house would find it honourable to apologize to the nation for trying to tarnish the image of the former President by their public statements. However, the permanent secretary, Dr. Aliyu, has revealed only part of the truth or half-truth about the actual power expenditure in that Mr Foluseke Somolu, who was the senior special assistant on power sector for this administration as well as for the former administration of Obasanjo, was fired by this administration when he revealed that the actual expenditure on power during the last administration was only $2.2b released to NEPA/PHCN and $2.96b released to NIPP bringing the total to only $5.16b. This figure has been corroborated by the spending given by Mrs. Ezekwesili, a former cabinet minister in the Obasanjo administration. Now it is very necessary fot permanent secretary Dr. Aliyu to come clean and show the actual number with all details as in the records. For Dr. Aliyu to keep silent about this fact is to show the world that he could a part of the propaganda machine that features the special Nigerian mathematical wonder where $2.2b+ $2.96b =$10b =$16b. Truth is perennial!
