A medical charity has expressed concerns that people wounded during clashes between the police and supporters of a politico-religious sect in the Bas-Congo province in southwest Democratic Republic of Congo are not receiving any medical help.
It is a shame that violence is breaking out in the southwest just as it seems to be coming to an end in the northeast. As fighters emerge from the forest of Ituri and the peace process begins, renewed fighting in Bas-Congo is the last thing the nation needs. --Dave Donelson, author of Heart of Diamonds, a novel of the Congo
