You must be a little careful with it, as it likes to absorb pollutants, but what isn't fit for human consumption can usually be made into fuel in several ways. Harvesting it would clear your rivers, channels and reservoirs reducing both flooding and drought. It would also remove a favorite breeding ground for malaria bearing mosquitoes.
