The Herald (Harare)

The yet to be announced result for the presidential election held two weeks ago has presented to the opposition MDC-T and its Western backers, an opportunity to stage-manage a crisis -- a condition that they have failed to create for the past eight and a half years.

Pathetic! This is the appropriate word. Pathetic because I feel sad for the long suffering of all ordinary Zimbabweans. Pathetic because of my contempt for the person who wrote the comment if he really meant what he wrote, and pity if he was only the messenger of a clique that betrayed its ideal. The one that demanded the right for a multiracial society to exist, to vote, to disagree, to live together in harmony in a prosperous country.
Where are gone the UNITY, the FREEDOM and the WORK! Who are the traitors? Those who aspire to recover this holy grail or those who lost it because of their greed?
Has the writer been to Zimbabwe in the last 5 years? If so, he would have noticed the rapid spirally down of this once beautiful country into abject poverty and starvation. While the president and his "veteran" friends live in luxury, the average citizen of the country is struggling just to find enough food for a meal, that is black and white citizen alike. Poverty has crossed the racial boundaries. This once rich bread basket of Southern Africa has turned into a "dust-bowl". Just because the West has turned their eyes to the atrocities being comittted by Pres. Mugabe and his blatant attempt to usurp his throne, does not mean that oppositon are the kitchen boys of PM Brown and the other concerned parties. They are pleading on behalf of the people who are screaming out for relief from this tyrant's rule. Pres. Mbeki is not wise to emulate the happenings in Zimbabwe. His support of his northern neighbor could be his demise and the destruction of another of the world's greatest countries. Hatred is a terrible thing. It kills.
This writer has helped learn a lot about the situation in Africa. He always has great analysis, so I am inclinded to look into what he is saying rather than automatically dismiss it.
They criticize Zimbabwe for class differences but where are they when its time to criticize America or Europe for the same thing?
Can you explain "this writer helped learn alot about the situation in Africa"? That does not make any sense to me. The article writer does have alot to say, unfortunately what he says is mostly Mugabe-ized rhetoric. Please take some time to read some non-biased reports of what has happened since the reign of Mugabe began in Zimbabwe, then comment. I lived in Southern Africa for years. I have been in Zimbabwe and have many friends that live or have once lived there. I have witnessed the decline of this once great country, but don't just take my word on it. Check out the destruction for yourself.
Helen,Helen,Helen, yes Zimbabwe 'was' a great country for white people in the rhodesia days and after independence because you 'owned' most of it. The poor blacks who are the majority by the way worked for people like you and were poorly paid. Black Zimbabweans are very strong people and will recover from all this hardship regardless. 160 000 % inflation,85 % unemployment,'starvation' and 'human right abuses' - tell me which our country can survive through that. We were told by your western media four years ago that 'Zimbabwe was finished' ,' Zimbabwe was on it's knees', 'Zimbabwe would fall by chrismas'. Zimbabwe is still STANDING! So dont worry we shalt recover.
Kuba, Kuba, Kuba. When last were you in Zimbabwe, traitor? It's nice to sit there in New Zealand and defend Zimbabwe, not so nice to be there.
Maybe you should stop living in luxury and go reap the fruits of your dictator's policies in Zimbabwe?
And, no, Zimbabwe will not recover. Europeans built up the economy, blacks have never in the history of Africa done anything similar.
kkk, If no black in the history of Africa has built up their economy why are you so worried then? Why cant you just leave peacefully - no one is forcing Europeans to stay in Africa, just leave - you've done enough damage.
kuba when you pull into harare next time with your well earned foreign exchange, change some at the local bureau de change at the official rate and see if you can afford a taxi into town. then proceed to do some shopping with the change. Start with say US$ 1 000.00. See how far you get. my in laws were robbed in their house recently by theives who were polite but firm. They tied my mother in law up and told her they were sorry but " this is Zimbabwe we need money and food' then they took all the food from the deepfreeze!! I tell you this to help explain to you what some of the 80% unemployed are doing, and where the hungry get their food as you seem to think there is no such thing. this is not MDC propaganda. The reality is mega inflation and unemployment and you are too priveleged and bigotted and racist to see it, you supporter of murderes.
Why didn't you go on strike last week? All you do is complain but cannot even go on strike to get your point accross - You want someone else to do your dirty work. Grow up idiot!
Mr Reason, I would expect you to be able to reason as your name implies but this does not seem to be the case so its of no use to engage in debate with you. You need to have your head examined.
The useless commentry of this uneducated moron is beyond belief he/she should remove themselves from Zimbabwe and see what the rest of the world is doing to understand what 160000% inflation means and what democracy means and understand that there are 3 million addition uncounted votes against his/her communist dictator from Zimbabweans who arent allowed by his her dictator to vote. Obviously the idiot is fed by Mugabes secret funds while his fellows starve. Useless commentory that doesnt understand the rest of the world.
