Five years after fighting first erupted in Darfur between Sudanese Government forces and rebel groups, the world has still not found a durable solution to the suffering of millions of people in the region, the United Nations humanitarian chief told the Security Council today, warning the situation will only deteriorate unless urgent measures are taken.

Why is the UN seemingly shedding crocodile tears for the people of Darfur and Sudan instead of facing the reality by eliminating the well-known root cause of the Darfur problem which is based on outside powers supplying arms to the militants to start the war and goading, and very likely, coercing the militants to continue to fighting on irrespective of human loses. To positively end the fighting and put an end to the unending misery and sufferings of the Sudanese people, the UN should persuade these outside powers to stop the atrocity of organizing civil war in the Darfur for the sole purpose of hoping to eventually aquire the natural resources of south Sudan. In an article published in the 'Inter Press Service (Johannesburg)' 27 Feb. 2008, it was revealed that Washington funneled nearly $20m worth of military equipment through Ethiopia, Eritrea and Uganda to help the Sudanese opposition overthrow the government of President Omar al-Bashir. Being privy to this information among others, the UN knows that the MAIN component of the civil war in the Darfur is the US involvement and in order to stop the war, the UN needs to disuade the US from this very inhumane atrocicity. Furthermore, the UN should also remember that as per the article published in the same paper 1 March 2008, the death toll in the DRC is 45,000 per month from the civil unrest that has been created by the US in the country since 1961 and the total estimate of the civiians killed todate as a result of the civil unrest is in the neighbourhood of 11 million. In Somalia already thousands or tens of thousands have been killed as a result of the civil unrest in the country and the UN is well aware of the principal players as well. ALL WE ARE SAYING IS, UN, PLEASE GIVE PEACE A CHANCE IN AFRICA.!
