Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai beat President Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe's presidential election on March 29, but not by a big enough margin to avoid a second round run-off.
Results at last! As easy as ABC, we hope as Zimbabweans one phase that we all were waiting to welcome is over and it had come without anyone taking it to the streets as incited by western states, media and British minded political buffoons. It is obvious that the fight is on Makoni votes. If the electorate saw Makoni as a Zanu PF stooge then no MDC supporter voted for him, If Makoni, as he said had backing from zanu PF bigwigs then the majority of his supporters are ZANU members disenchanted by Mugabe in person but would want to see the survival of their party – they can’t vote MDC today. If the majority of Makoni’s votes came from Mutambara MDC with overwhelming support from Matabeleland then Tsvangirai is heading to win. Given the presidential results today there won’t be landslide victory. The electorate had an understanding that there was no outright winner; however re-run campaigns were then launched by Britain and its surrogates naming our aging leader a population killer, an election rigger and all sorts of dictatorship never experienced after Rhodesia. We will continue to hear from the British telling the world that Mugabe can’t win, he will kill half of MDC population, and he rigged to lose last month and is rigging to win on the re-run! Mugabe’s constituency is very strong so is Tsvangirai’s constituency, I only wish that the two individuals involved must work out a plan to form an all encompassing government that addresses our real problems, ACCESS TO LOANS/CREDITS FROM INTERNATIONAL BANKS, END TO MUGABE DEMONISATION, INVOLVENT OF WELL MEANING INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS IN OUR COUNTRY, ERRUDICATION OF CORRUPTION. We want to keep on enjoying our peace but now with our stomachs full.
i don't think the recount shows that Mugabe has been fair just because they prove he still lost, the main aim of the recount was not to put Mugabe over MDC, but it was to have the run off by chopping off enough percentages from MDC in order for such an environment to be available.
Given the ratio for parliamentary results it was apparent that the presidential results will give the three candidates under 50%+1 vote each. However the delay in announcing the presidential elections was not pleasing in terms of execution of duties by ZEC. If Mugabe wanted to doctor the results on the eve of elections he could have announced himself winner and let any query follow due process of law. Tsvangirai had already shown that he requires sympathy from British backed international community more than the very electorate who voted for him making it easy for Mugabe to act on the election results and the electorate. The delay in announcing presidential results has brought revelation to most of us in Zimbabwe, British exhilaration under Brown and British financed organisations’ masterminding negative false events here got plainly exposed. Zimbabwe was ground to attention seeking characters and those who have deep hatred for Mugabe policies with regards to land acquisitions. When word was around that Mugabe lost the elections some British tabloids screamed their “victory”, it was in some of these news houses that we learnt of how they constricted the Zimbabwean economy so as to influence the vote to the opposition. We were then bombarded by varying absolute statements that Tsvangirai has won, that there be more suffering of the people if Mugabe continues to lead, that an army be prepared to invade Mugabe regime. The four weeks’ delay in announcing presidential results will help future Zimbabwean scholars in assessing how their country has been in british abhorrence under Mugabe policies of land. It is this same time that future children of our beautiful country will learn that a country can thrive any form of peril if there is deep resolve for peace and oneness amongst the ordinary people. I salute my people I mingle with each day in queues for basic necessities; I salute my fellow general public in their perseverance for the political truth, the political maturity of the ordinary man is second to none in this world. I am amused by the witty electorates here who have astutely chosen to be observers to their struggle while the international world exchange blows for the noble cause of humanity. It will be with deep shame when proponents of our suffrage are exposed once the phase of poverty is over. When the west scrambled for Africa it was through barbaric mentality still repeated today, after long protracted wars of liberation, the west was then given back its human face, their dignity as people, they were taught of rule of law by the magnanimous and victorious Africans through reconciliation; the same teachings africa is showing the world in Zimbabwe today. We are ready to work with anyone for the common good of all.
After a month yes the results were made public so I am not sure why you think that is okay and results are just. We all have seen Mugabe's track record and well I do not trust what was said b/c they are on Mugabe's side or afraid of what might happen if they share the truth. Anyway this second run off election can't happen until after 21 days but could not happen for a year under their so called rules so Mugabe is at work to undermine the people of Zimbabwe which now are starving and inflation is crazy how so Mugabe apparently wants to completely destroy Zimbabwe.
The opposition is willing for a power sharing agreement without Mugabe in the picture which the right thing to do. Mugabe needs to step down and live his remaining days somewhere in Zimbabwe out of the political picture. I am all for someone encouraging Mugabe to step down peacefully of by force which ever he so desire but know his days are over as President of Zimbabwe...
onesoulforzim well if you are true to your name you would be supporting the people of Zimbabwe and not Mubgabe
it is really sad, very sad that some of us like one soul for zim can choose to ignore the facts right in front of them. if we can not see this ourself how then do we expect to improve our own countries. the results are out and guess what the mathematics has been applied to them, some people have inflated results and that suit us fine. i believe that the zimbabwen people can be able to solve the crisis they are in but that is if they are ready to admit that things are wrong and need action and please stop blaming this on race, if anything i find that the people who keep blaming all this on racism are the very racists who because of their racism are blinded to see beyond reality.
race! what race?
"onesoulforzim well if you are true to your name you would be supporting the people of Zimbabwe and not Mubgabe"
africa35, you appear to suggest that the good people of Zimbabwe and Mugabe are mutually exclusive. They are not. Mugabe and other Zimbabweans struggle to retain the sovereignty they fought so hard to win and have sacrificed so much to maintain. Many Zimbabweans, including Mugabe, see independece as a most precious commodity and are willing to guard it jealously. There are yet others in Zimbabwe who, naively, would exchange self-governance for Western international co-operation/jam today. With respect, I submit a link from the last place of note that the UK, the US and the IMF raced in, en masse, to "assist". Apparently, workers' representatives have long been demanding that their saviours pack their bags and move out. http://www.basraoilunion.org/
selector, you can't compare Iraq and Zim. The Zim govt has been begging for money from the IMF since independence. And as soon as funds are withdrawn because they never repay the loans they complain that the IMF is being unfair.
African governments need to remember that the IMF is not a CHARITY.
onesoul, once again you present us with your brainwashed drivel. The white farmers in Zim wanted land reform, but they wanted it done sensibly. Instead most of the land was given to ZANU-PF cronies who don't use the land for anything productive.
You bring out the Britain card in every post you make. Honestly, you sound just like that fool Mugabe who has ruined Zimbabwe. He may have been a hero once but today he is no more than a tyrant.
Why don't you give your Mugabe propaganda a rest? If we want to read rubbish we can look at The Herald!
mindpower "The white farmers in Zim wanted land reform, but they wanted it done sensibly. Instead most of the land was given to ZANU-PF cronies", end quote. What's 'sensibly' considering they have been there since 1907 after conquering in the uprisings of 1896-97? I wouldn't consider more than 350000 black farmers and 60 white farmers who have benefited under the A1, A2 and large commercial farm schemes 'cronies'. And finally 'Productive' Why wouldn't the international community including Britian support these farmers including the 60 white farmers so they are more productive? With what? In-service training as they do in England, mechanisation, irrigation kits etc.
Sensibly means giving the land to people who are qualified to produce enough food to feed the population. Sensibly means taking time and care to do the job properly instead of a massive land grab in a short period. Sensibly means keeping a portion of forex producing crops like tobacco going so that the forex can be used for newly settled farmers to buy the essential equipment not produced in Zimbabwe.
Food production in Zim has fallen to 10% of what it was before the "reforms". The best farms were handed out to ZANU-PF bigwigs. How can you possibly say that resettlement was done sensibly!??
