The rights of deaf persons have been violated for many years and the common excuse given is the communication barrier that exist between them and hearing persons.It is for this reason that El-Shammah Mission Sierra Leone deemed it fit to organise sign lanuage training workshops,El-Shammah Mission beieves once this communication gap is bridged deaf persons will be placed in a better position to enjoy basic human Rights.This training will also create an awareness of the presence and plight of deaf persons in this part of the world and create educaional opportunities for deaf children.Deaf persons,especially the kids are the most uneducated group of people in Sierra Leone.It is therefore the responsibility of every Sierra Leonean to promote Sign Language trainings in Sierra Leone,Lip reading is also good but it cannot integrate the deaf person very well into his/her community because communication will only be one sided(Hearing person todeaf person only).I have heard a lot of people give sacastic comment about deaf people and their plght,i want to take this opportunity to say that deafness is caused by either biological or physical factors which every living being is prone to encounter.To put it straight,there exist the possibility that'YOU' can be deaf at any moment of your life.It is terefore necessary for us to put our hand on deck and promote Sign Language in our nation,Sierra Leone.
