Former Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr Haz Iwendi, who died of stroke related illness on Monday, at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria , was in coma for four days before his death.
Late Commissioner Haz Iwendi was one of those dedicated officer that Employer seeks but hardly found. Throughout his time in service he was not found wanting in his duties and would be fondly remembered by all Nigerians. My prayer and thought go out to his family and may his soul rest in peace.
On different but related note, the comment of the IG Quote; Okiro said, "henceforth, ACPs, Deputy Commissioners (DCs) Commissioners of Police (CPs), Assistant Inspectors- General (AIGs) and Deputy Inspectors- General (DIGs) must go for annual medical check up abroad, to certify their health status."......Okiro
It is not only outrageous but discriminatory; Nigeria police in its present structure should have a functional state of the art Police Hospital located in all the major cities to care for both officers and men of the police force and their families. For the IG to catalog those who are eligible to travel overseas for medical check up is not only preposterous but a moral killer for those men who put their lives on the line of fire everyday.
Is the IG suggesting that the lives of the officers are more important than the men of the police force? How about the cost of flying these guys out for annual check up? Is he in effect saying that the Nigerian doctors are not competent? Shame on the IG because this is another way to steal and stash out money meant for the uplifting the police as we witnessed in the so called police fund that Obasanjo's son-law Mr. Martin stole and stashed away. The President and the National Assembly should step in and stop this outrageous move by the IG it not good for the economy and bad for the over all police moral.
