I know President Yar'Adua meant well by saying that Nigeria as a country will fall into second place from Africa's largest oil producing nation if the unrest in Bayelsa State should continue. However, he should also show some compassion for the people that their lives are affected on a daily basis by the enviromental degradation and lack of development in these oil producing areas.

The parts of Nigeria that benefit the most from the oil don't even prodce a single barrel of oil. Yes, I have an idea. Nigeria should build its House of Assembly right there in the capital of Bayelsa State. This way, the politicians who have sworn to serve the people will also be close to the source of the nation's wealth where most of the citizens that live closest to it are also the poorest. For this reason, the politicians will better understand the plight of the Niger Delta citizens who really should be the main custodians of this national wealth.

It's time to stop the politicians in Nigeria from behaving and acting like they are not accountable to the people of Nigeria. It is also time to stop the Nigerian politicians from thinking and saying that the people are disposable like dirt rags. It is time to start fitting every Nigerian politician and aspiring politicians with hearts so that they can be human again.
