Despite the controversy over the invitation of former president Olusegun Obasanjo and his former deputy, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the House of Representatives Committee probing the contracts in the power sector has said it is satisfied with the responses of Obasanjo and Atiku to its summons.
Granted that the commitee may not have the power of indictment, i believe the comitee should have the right to force the former president and his number two to appear in person. I will accept that they have not decisded to do that and it may well be that the explanation submitted in writting may suffice them. It would have been nice for them to have appeared, but i guess they were not bold enough as you would find that incapable leadres are.
I want to know if the probe of Obasanjo's regime is a vindictive measure, punitive one or corrective one. Dont't get me wrong, I am not exonorating him from any wrong doings, not even of corruption (based on wide spread speculations, Not proven by by his political enemy's).
The
I feel quite uneasy when the House of Reps dishonorably summoned the old man to apprear before it without recourse to protocol and respect. Treating him more like the guilty already.
Has it been proven that money spent on power sector was singularly or collected pocketed by Obasanjo?
The contracts failed, not because he did not mean well for the power sector or because he pocked the money, but because he was a hard man who believed whatever he settled to do was the right step and he believed he was always right in his own eyes.
Though we all know he was misled into believing that it was possible to make the power setor work in two year before he left office and make a public show of this for political gains - a feat he couldn't achieve for about the first six years he was in office if he pumped in enough money.
Now that it boomerang, he shouldn't be spare from probe, to serve as deterent to others.
My point is if he is not found to have privately and personally pocketed this money - directly or indirectly, then he shouldn't be held persoanlly liable for this - distinguish offial misdoing of not following the normal procedure from a persoal crime of stealing the money.
The National Assembly and his political enemies coupled with our ill informed media are just mixing up issues to confuse the society that there was nothing good at all about Obasanjo for all his 8 years in office.
When a probe like this starts, we are not starting from Obasanjo, we shall start with Babangida whose rule was worse, let heavens be let loose for this. But this selective probe of ONLY Obasanjo's regime shows bias, sentiment - personal, tribal and reigious.
WE MUST DO IT WELL AND TOTALLY TOO OR NOT DO IT ALL.
hey! OBJ himself fronted like the father of anti-corruption, probing him either vindicative or corrective is just a continuity from what he initiated, hinself once said it that "if the masses think that he's only probing his political enemies on purpose, let it be that he also be probed after he relinguishes power" if the plot of his party PDP was originally to install a do-or die president Y'Adua, who will not be willing to probe his predecessor, then what is Nigeria pre-supposing, centrallized government, centrallized decision making? let no body brainwash anybody, if need be,(which i'm of the opinion that there are) let Obasanjo be probed and exposed like he achieved on fellow Nigerians when he was on seat. however, the summission of the probe panel is final........ if they think he 's got nothing to be probed upon, then let the old man have his peace and keep driving his boys that he entrenched! queen yk.

The National Assembly and his political enemies and self righteous and hypocritical criminals now calling for his head coupled with our ill informed media who are just mixing up issues to confuse the public that there was nothing good at all about Obasanjo for all his 8 years in office. No, I don't believe. You nealy killed him once for the choice and ways of Ribadu, after he left office, it now Ribadu- the best man for the job.

So what? Is that it? You must be kidding me
