MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai is unlikely to return home on Saturday to resume his presidential election campaign, his party has said.

Hey this is smart b/c this may not be for the timid but well he could very much be a dead man if he comes home so that comment was foolish unless you have a death wish just another ply of Mugabe's to keep him in office but we know mugabe is very capable of killing so that is why the African leaders must send in a group of armed miltary to not only protect the opposition but also the people of Zimbabwe...
Out of curiosity, what WOULD happen if the leader of the MDC was assassinated?
I agree it would be a tragedy, but how would Zimbabwe react? How would South Africa and SADC and AU react? Would Mugabe "claim the throne"?
I truly see ZANU-PF/Mugabe declaring a state of emergency anyway and stamping out MDC.......
I hope this is not the case and that "people power" overcomes the tyranny and destruction ZANU-PF/Mugabe has wrought on Zimbabwe, but I suspect, Mugabe and his cronies will reach for the lure of continued power and declare a State of Emergency. They've done everything else to remain in power, it's such a small step to move to the next level and outlaw MDC and public gatherings compared to what they've done already to cement their position during the 5 weeks it took to announce the results of the election and the add'l 6 weeks before the "run-off".
julman, for eight long years Morgan has caused a lot of trouble for ZANU PF and is responsible with his western backed mdc for the hardships in Zimbabwe. I think it's fair to say if Mugabe/ZANU PF wanted to assassinate him they would have done it years ago. It is not hard for any country to get rid of a problem person if they want to.
Much like the Zanu PF is currently doing with anyone that voted MDC?
indie you really need to GROW UP! You make it seem as if all twelve million Zimbabweans are for the mdc??? The fact is if that was so Mugabe would have been gone years ago. Stop being so stupid - black Zimbabweans are not as thick as you are.
See Kube... when you are cornered and dont have a point, you attack the messenger. Nice, but everyone sees through it. If the last elections were free and fair we would have seen the back of Mugabe 4 years ago. Did you see an opposition candidate got kidnapped and murdered yesterday. Zimbabwe is a disgrace. PS hows New Zealand?
So hows things in New Zealand Kube? Enjoying how safe you feel there?
indie, why do you and your idiotic cronies go on and on about me living in New Zealand when i have mentioned before that it is my Zimbabwean job that keeps me here. My living in New Zealand has go nothing to do with the situation in Zimbabwe,i still own a home there and have family there too. If you are trying to say that Zimbabwe is unsafe then you have just confirmed what i've said before, lies, lies, and more lies - GROW UP you loser!
"my Zimbabwean job keeps me here".
What nonsense Kuba. You are choosing to live in New Zealand. If you wanted to live in Zim you would find a different job.
"My job keeps me here" haha. Yeah right. I love the humour you provide me with on a daily basis Kube, I really do. I'm just reflecting what everyone else is saying. Its an extremely unsafe place at the moment. Look at all the news filtering out of Zim about the violence across the country. Read anything that isnt the Herald and you might get a true reflection of what is going on at the moment. OR are you just ignoring all that news? Like I said, must be really comfortable for you in NZ while the rest of your beloved homeland is getting destroyed and people are dying daily due to violence. Can I buy you a sweater for the cold NZ winter mate... you poor thing, it must be tough.
"Grow up you loser"? It really isn't possible to debate with you on an intellectual level is it Kubatana? You resort to outbursts like that one to state your case. I honestly thought I had left the schoolyard way behind me until I met Kubatana. I give his posts the weight they deserve, very little.
Julman, as Africa35 has also stated, it would be a death wish for the MDC leader to return too soon. If Mugabe assassinated him, of course Mugabe would claim his seat and like a dog with rabies, would start frothing in the mouth, killing the supporters of MDC. He has killed thousands in Mandebeleland so what would there be to stop him. Once a dog has tasted human blood, it never stops biting.
If Mugabe/ZANU PF wanted to kill Morgan they would have done it eight years ago when all this trouble started so to say that there is a plot is the height of stupidity!
Kubatana no one said there was is a plot. The question was "IF?" because the probability is there, especially when you are dealing with a wounded animal.
Kugatana, no one said there is a plot. The question was "IF?" because there is always a probability especially with a wounded animal.
I am reminded of the valiant liberators (vakomana) of 1980 who came from the bush with one ambition, to campaign and rule Zimbabwe with the people’s mandate. Those heroes of yesteryear were not afraid of the lethal colonial establishment then as they buoyantly publicized their bravura to the masses each day before the historical first elections. Does our next presidential protagonist exude self-confidence to the electorate? Is our today’s man portraying conviction in the future with him or is he just some de rigueur phony politician well positioned and appropriate for advancing ulterior political objectives by clandestine powers? A leader of this magnitude must not play truancy with the populace. I wish brother Tsvangirai and his team good life in their endeavors.
I am reminded of the Western, so-called, do-gooders who wanted to intervene in Pakistan's recent democratic elections. I recall the incumbent president declaring a state of emergency, in the face of increased political violence, and Pakistan being suspended from the UK-led Commonwealth as a result. I recall the electorial race becoming more contentious and violent almost in directly correlation to Western attempts to 'help out'. I recall the violent murder of Benazir Bhutto. (RIP). Finally, I recall the state of emergency being lifted and free and fair elections taking place, without the aid of would-be Western do-gooders.
Haha and do you also recall how quickly the Pakistani's managed to get the results of their election out?
Even Tongogara breathed his last breath trying to get to the heart of the country he so much believed and fought for. This is about our main man, Tsvangirai, after globe trotting and enjoying hotel and presidential service from European governments he now sees Zim as a no go area yet he campaigned and won our hearts a month ago and before. His Kensington residence has become a tiny unsafe place after staying there for decades. Surely Zanu wants him dead as he also wants Mugabe dead, Pius Ncube once prayed for such calamity to happen to his arch enemy, Mugabe. Mugabe’s enemies are more powerful than him, they are anxious to see him dead, just like Machel and others. Now; from SA hotel room, Tsvangirai says I am going to address a rally in byo Saturday, and then when left alone he wet his pants in fear, he sees Mugabe ghost when asleep and shout out in bed that he can’t leave his hotel room. Where does he think he can be safe? Tsvangirai has to be convinced for days to come to terms that opposition need leadership at home. Maybe according to many on this forum, Mugabe is a tyrant because Tsvangirai is afraid of him, Mugabe needs to be taken to the Hague first for Tsvangirai to safely campaign, should we put more economic limitation to ordinary Zimbos to weaken Mugabe force, maybe Tsvangirai needs a Toma Hawk plane from Britain and USA to take him to White City stadium, maybe we need UN assistance with its african contingent to take MT to Zim and guard him. This is a man who claimed to lead a mass walk to state house and remove Mugabe violently. Politics is not for the faint hearted who feed the masses with lies. Political journey is like crossing a crocodile infested river - usatya ngwena makumbo arimumvura! With the animosity against Mugabe he can be shot anytime by anyone just like Bhutto, J F Kennedy and many others, but we must remember that politicians choose their professions willingly and knowingly. The greatest enemy of a politician is the ordinary person who quickly turns against them. Musanyengere vanhu! Cowards must write books and comments like us.
mUSATAMBE...before u can blame Tsvangirai as a coward..look where he came from..and measure Mugabe´s dangerosity now and before. Listern, the truth is Mugabe is mo desperate amd more dangerous now than eva and all this is because of Tsvangirai. Of-cos u have a reason when u kip on saying tt if ZANU wanted him dead they cld have done it..BUT DONT FORGET THAT IT IS THE FIRST TIME FOR MDC TO WIN THE ELECTIONS IN ZIM.something tt even Mugabe neva thot or dreamt of...ZANU is prepared to do everything now than before...I mean if eva they had been hesitating to kill Morgan for all these years, im sure now they can do it given any small opportunity because maybe after failing to use all other methods thats the only way left to keep Mugabe on power forever...because violence and killing MDC supportes is failing to bring any yields accoeding to their wishes...
Yes, u can rush to blame Tsvangirai for making sure tt he is safe but the truth is tt Tsvangirai knows the type of an animal he is dealing with. He is even getting first hand information about all plans against his life from very close Mugabe´s kinsmen who in actual fact r tired of Mugabe and r trying everytrhing behind the line to mek sure Tsvangirai at least SURVIVES UP TO HIS TIME TO RULE...eVEN DURING THE WAR OF COLONIALISM,vakatiza masoja ose into Mozambique for safety, then they later on came back home doing gorrilla warfare...its just the same.
Dont forget tt Mugabe is a specialist in attaching at the most crucial time...he killed Tongogara when he was left witha few miles to state house and tt made him the president of ZIM for the past 28 years...noe honestly if given the opportunity he can kill Tsvangirao and did u take yo time to think about what the future of Zim wld be like if Tsvangirai is a dead man TODAY? eVEN YO FUTURE? nHOVO INOREMA YOSVIKA, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO FACE REALITY,the truth is Morgan is supposed to b alive for the Zimbabwean situation to end in a short time to come. Dont worry he will b back home soon...its not forever. Just bear with him knowing tt we have burried so many ple, learnmore. Jongwe, what happened to him? Have faith all this will b history...even CIOs are helpng Morgan now, tho secretly but let Zimbabweans vote to put to an end to all this.
indie, if yo election system - get out and stay out.
indie, if you dont like the election system - get out and stay out.
Aaah I love democracy. Just find it another great example of how incompetant the Zim government is. I mean pakistan have 180 million people to sort votes for. And they can do it in 3 days. Zim has what 18 million? less all those that are getting killed in South Africa at the moment of course.
Awt_Independence, take a warning from me. If you don't praise Mugabe and his henchmen for terrorizing, beating, killing their own people, running Zimbabwe's economy to oblivion, then Kubatana will not like you.
kjrs, you dont have any facts. All your talk about Zimbabwe is base-less and heaps of lies thrown in.
No that's you Kuba. I have never seen you post a single verifiable fact in any message you have written.
Where's your evidence of this? Can you please tell us all one single lie that I have said? Kube, you are a disgrace. You remind me of those 2 muppets up in the balcony. Firstly because you are a muppet, and secondly because you yell abuse from the sidelines without any idea what is going on.
Pervez Musharraf sacked the judiciary and called a state of emergency. You don't think western pressure resulted in the lifiting of that state of emergency? The violence in Pakistan was as a result of the state of a fabricated state of emergency to rule by decree. Pakistan is getting ready to get rid of Musharraf and evict him from Army House in Islamabad since he took off his uniform 12mths ago and yet refuses to leave, the people of Pakistan rejected him and his party the PMLQ and yet he still clings on. Sound familiar?
If Musharaff is as bad and disliked by his people as shown in their voting why then the masters of democracy (USA, Britain, Europe) chose to work with him since he came to power illegally. Immediately after Bhutto was dead why was Musharaff allowed to address an all international business meeting in Davos, then Paris and many European cities when his country was under a state of emergency? Are the Pakis’ wishes really important to the western world? If this is western alliance of interest then we should analyse the Zimbabwe’s relation to the west with the contempt it deserves.
Thats right, he came into power with a millitary coup and it was quite ok for the west to accept it. And they call it democracy!
The west could do as much about the military coup in Pakistan as it can do about the current constitutional coup in Zimbabwe. Pakistan allows the west to use 3 of it's airbases which it did after implicit threats and ultimata from Bush. Musharraf was condemned by, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, The UK, Canada, The United States and Australia. He was told to lift the state of emergency and step down as head of the army by Bush on the 8th November 2007, he did so on the 28th when his position became untenable and the US suspended defence talks with Pakistan. Following the lifting of the state of emergency in the west began to supply money and material for Pakistans economy; so far from supporting Musharraf, preserving the status quo and propping up a dictator who was friendly towards us and useful to us(which obviously would be more advantageous for western military operations in Afghanistan) the west was instrumental in his demise and ecouraging democracy in Pakistan.
Glyph, not everyone is a big fan of the western world. I'm surprised that you are constantly trying to push the "UK" as a solution to African issues. Look, UK is not being consulted at recent African conflicts such as Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Liberia etc All problems now are deferred to the African Union or the elders of Africa. The Western World, especially the UK and USA, are no longer trusted given the barbaric lies and propaganda that led to the Iraq war. UK is not even welcome in Southern Africa. Big "headedness" attitude of the UK has led it being unwelcome at helping the Zimbabwean current problems. The African Union defied UK calls to ban Mugabe from attending AU/EU recent conference. I don't know why you cannot see the big picture of where the UK is headed in Africa - Largely irrelavent. My prophesy is that the UK will slip in the world richest country rankings. As is typical of white anglos, you are also in conflict with your fellow EU members. I tell my students to watch the impending doom of the UK! It may sound craze, but it is coming!
So Phiri or should I call you 'prophet of doom' now that you have your elders - the African Union - to whom Africa can get succour, I hope we won't ever hear anymore annoying snivels about the West.
Pushing the UK as a solution for African issues? I'd be interested to see where I said anything resmbling that, or was it all in your head?
The AU is doing such a sterling job in those places you mentioned(sarcasm). Why would be be concerned with them? It has been made quite clear that the AU will attempt to keep the peace in all those places why should we mop up their failures?
You once again say that the western world is no longer trusted, and yet.....IMF, World Bank, UN, UNESCO, Save The Children, The British Red Cross, OXFAM, Medicine sans Frontieres, Christian Aid, US Aid, Adventist Development and Relief Agency, Africa Muslims Agency, African-American Institute African-American Islamic Institute, Agence Internationale pour le Developpement, among over 2,300 assorted charities and NGO's giving money hand over fist. For a continent which doesnt trust the west you sure dont mind our deep pockets or the buying power of our hard currency. Your whole trust issue thing falls flat. If it wasn't for the western world and inward investment you'd be screwed, thats just fact, argue with facts if you want to waste your time.
The EU Africa summit in portugal was attended by Mugabe and 130 of his acolytes against the wishes of Britain, Spain, The Netherlands, Denmark and Germany. French president Chirac was the only veto. The french overplayed their hand and an in allowing Mugabe to attend were forced to vote for another year of travel restrictions. The AU states who pushed for his attendance were Sudan, Nigeria, and Somalia, humanitarian giants one and all who had no influence over the decision to allow him to attend. He was in good company with other members of the African Dictators club.
Now where is the UK and the west headed in africa? Lets see shall we:

What is it that you teach? Creative writing? There wasnt much in your post which you didnt make up, as for your prophesy....more like wishful thinking.
Glyph, I honestly think your post is way above Phiri. He won't comprehend a damn thing.
Tsvangirai anenge gwarawo futi. This game is not for the timid and frail at heart. Nhasi wati waakuuya, mangwana wava neimwe nhoroondo, unotonga sei nekutya kwakadaro. Those in Mkumbura,Mtoko and all those areas where your party is saying are being brutalised, are hoping that you realize that this game is not for the timid.
