Gambia: No Room for Gays - The Daily Observer

President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, on Thursday, gave less than 24 hours (until last week Friday) ultimatum to homosexuals, drug dealers, thieves and other criminals, to leave The Gambia or face serious consequences if caught.

Gambians should watch out that their leader is out of step with the rest of the world in his condemnation of gays. He stands in the way of progress for the country as others might see Gambia as ignorant as he is. The American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychological Association, and American Psychoanalytic Association confirmed that sexual orientation is natural, biologically induced, morally neutral, immutable, neither contagious nor learned, and has no relation to an individual's ability to form deep and lasting relationships, to parent children, to work, or to contribute to society; and endorsed civil marriage for same sex couples because marriage strengthens the mental and physical health and the longevity of couples, and provides greater legal and financial security for children, parents, and seniors. This is the future and Mr. Jammeh is going to be way left behind.

This is in response to the so-call Dr.Gambia is a muslim nation and most of them value their religion dearly. Homosexuality is one of the un-natural acts that the Quran clearly warned us not to engaged in.Most homosexuals are foreigners who come to the gambia to exploit poor young children by giving them gifts in exchange for sexual favours.I strongly agreed with the president for taking this hardline stand, a stand that will create a better society based on the teaching of the Quran.Gambia maybe poor but we are better off poor than living in a immoral and dirty society committed by very few but growing assholes...

The so-call doctor and his useless citations of mad psychologist should close their mouths. As far as the Gambia is concern, both Christians and Muslims, no gay or whatever they are called would be tolerated here. If development and progress must be accompanied by such vices, then we prefer no to join in such development. According to the association of God fearing academics, sexual orientation is hetrosexual but people can fashion it to defy nature.Humans are at the point of diminishing return where materialism will make them worst than the so call lower animals. May our homeland be saved from such demons and their promonents.

While there are no perfect people on this earth, I congratulate President Jammeh on knowing that, while his country may be hurting in many different ways, allowing free reign to those who break the laws of God and nature will not only hinder further progress, it will begin an undermining that will destroy it. In the comments by OHanlan, he references four American associations. As an American I will not bother to check ~ he is probably right. The homosexual lobby and movement have been tearing apart our country from within for a very long time, and with the active help of said associations. This is not being done because of good ‘science’, for if real science was involved, there would no such endorsements. It took a number of years, but the homosexuals and their hyper-liberal friends finally had enough votes to change what is common sense into their agenda. While I do not personally know President Jammeh or his overall value system, he at least knows one, or both, of two truths: On the spiritual side, God said No. On the secular side, there is a REASON why two members of the same sex cannot have children ~ it is not meant to be, nor will it ever be. I pray that his country will never have to witness what mine does on a daily basis; children are not allowed to pray to their God in school, yet being taught that it’s perfectly normal to mate with one’s own sex. I love my country, I have spent many years serving my country, and I weep for my country. Bravo, Mr. President!

I am not a real supporter of President Jammeh, but I am really in support of his initiative to fight against gays and homosexuals. These type of creatures I would call them are not good in any society and MUST never be entertained in any God fearing society. BRAVO Mr. President you have taken the bull by the horn. By this I mean, you have taken the bold step to kick against what the super powers are legalising. They kick against the use of drugs, but encourage gayism which can lead to AIDS. DOWN WITH GAYISM and BRAVO TO PRESIDENT JAMMEH for fighting the gays and homosexuals who are in the peaceful and loving Gambia to distroy the societal norms and values. KEEP IT UP YAHYA JAMMEH GOD WILL FOREVER PROTECT YOU.

Indeed, Gambia may be rule by a mad man but at the same time we Gambians have never and will NEVER condone homosexuality in her society.

We still hear the echos of the West of "protecting their beliefs and values..". Maybe one of those values include homeless people sleeping rough in the streets or children as young as 12 years involve in BINGE drinking!

Gambians too have beliefs and values to protect, and we are determined to defend those values at any cost. Am sorry homosexuality is NOT a value that our society cherish.

Gambians are good and friendly and welcome ours to visit and stay with us BUT at the same time we expect you to RESPECT our beliefs, laws and values.

WE are very much concerned about this discrimination of the Gambians president. It shows that homophobia and rassisim are going hand in hand. Its not only that thousands of tourists will not come back again to The Gambia, but also that noone will investigate money into a country that behaves like we in europe did in the middle ages. This president is just a fool cause he dont understand, that those gays who used to come also brought money into the country. They helped the families finanilly, they supported school fees, private schools and a lot more. This has now an end, until Gambia has got a new president and a liberal politics. Fact is also that there are also Gambian gays. They will have to seek for refugue in Europe or America. Real love never can be a sin, but prostitution, lying, to steal, corruption.... is. So he has to cut off everyone head, couse nobody in this world is without sin. I feel sorry for my Gambian friends and their families, but i wont come back again into the Gambia. I believe in the One God, but God is Love and not a hater of people who have a heart for the poor.
