West Africa: Region is 'Ground Zero' for Climate Change - Egeland (UN Integrated Regional Information Networks)

The Sahel region of West Africa is "ground zero" for vulnerable communities struggling to adapt to climate change, the UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser on conflict, Jan Egeland, said on 2 June in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso, as he began a mission to draw the world's attention to mounting social pressures in the region.

Just to the South of the spreading Sahel there is an enormous dessication machine that needs to be stopped. The Typha infestations in Lake Chad, its tributaries and its outlets are sucking your continent dry. There's something like 20000 square Km of Typha in Lake Chad. Harvest it! Under good conditions, the plant is made of food. What isn't fit for human consumption can be brewed into ethanol.
