President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua is exploring the possibility of acquiring, in the long-term, an electro-nuclear programme to meet the huge energy demands in the country.

Oga, Sir, Umaru, the idea of an electro-nuclear programme is not a good one. Ask all the countries that have tried electro-nuclear programmes, it is more trouble than it is worth. That is why many of them have long abandoned it. Have you even wondered how we would clear the nuclear waste that would arise from it? Think also of the health issues it would create, and do not forget the hazard that misuse of the required materials would involve. Again, Oga Umaru, let the thing be. It is not a good idea. I believe that what is at issues is not just solving our electricity problem but solving it in such a way that it does not create other ancillary problems that we cannot handle. THE NUCLEAR PROGRAMME IS MORE TROUBLE THAN WE NEED AT THIS TIME.
