In a day of high drama on the Zimbabwe front, MDC leader Morgan Tsvirangirai snubbed a meeting between him, President Thabo Mbeki and Robert Mugabe - and a British newspaper has posted a film on its website showing voters being forced to vote for Mugabe.

You are a very strange african for thinking that sanctions on your fellow brothers will change things in zimbabwe. Tsvangirai has shown that his decisions are definately made elsewhere besides from within Zimbabwe. I am a Zimbabwean and I think people are really tired of all this political mess. We dont care who is involved in the discussion as long as there are discussion to end our suffering. we are not violent people and this calling on the west to impose sanctions on an African country after all the suffering people went through under those same countries is a true embarrasment especially when such calls are made from an african. A mediator will not solve our problems but is there to merely create a platform for dialogue, which is what we want...
The most plausible thought over what is going on in Zimbabwe is that the international community is using sanctions as a means of bringing the authorities in office in Zimbabwe to realise for the sake of the people of Zimbabwe, the need to yield and let democracy proper prevail so that legitimacy returns to Zimbabwe yet again! The events since March 2008 have been ugly and a backward step for Africa as a whole. The best solution for Zimbabwe right now is to call for fresh elections for the Presidency and conduct such elections under a peaciful and quiet atmosphere. The African Union should have observers and a Peace Keeping Force to help with maintaining law and order during the time of such an election call.
The current negotiation plans by Tabo Mbeki will yield nothing tangible as long as Mr Mugabe clings to the Presidency that internationally is rightly viewed as illetimate!
Over 2 million Zimbabweans gave Mr. Mugabe, an African hero, all the legitimacy that he needs on June 27, 2008. And Mr. Mbeki is doing a great job in remaining neutral and trying to help Zimbabweans work out their own problems.
djoser - the SADC as well as AU observer teams disagree with you. Both teams reported that the elections were not free or fair. Where is your legitimacy now?
djoser35, I really do not know which Zimbabwe yuo're talking about. Am not a zimbabwean but going by the media reports ;where in the world , even during the great depression has an economy had an inflation of 2million per cent? i cant even comprehend.Am sure even the Guinness book of records can'! AND you still say bob is working out on a solution? I dont know but the reasoning of the 2 million voters who you claim spoke, their reasonig is in a class of its own. PEOPLE OF ZIM. YOU NEED TO WAKE UP. Dont expect the AU to do anything for you, instead our african leaders are full of envy for bob. It is only that the resrt of Africa cannot give them a chance the way you have given Bob
As zimbabweans we are saying we have given Mugabe 28yrs to prove to us that he can take the country to greater heihgts and he failed . That is why we need new blood in the form of President Tsvangirai. What else does he needs to do that he could not do during that time. Same applies to Mbeki, leave Zimbabwe alone. We gave you 8 years to mediate talks and you prooved that you are useless. What else do you still want after failing to prove a point for so long. Even a child who was born on the very day you started these negotiations is now in grade two if not three and you still insist you will get a lasting solution to the crisis in zimbabwe. Shame on you. Thus why no body wants you in your country.
While covering news about Mugabe, the media should refer to him as the "illegitimate President of Zimbabwe". From a past hero he has become a monster of his own people whose hands are stained with the blood of the very citizens that he once fought to liberate from an illegitimate regime. He, together with his close collaborators, should be tried for genocide by the International Human rights Court.
Tsvangirai was right to snub the Mbeki convened meeting with Mugabe as President. Mbeki will go down in history as the person sheltering the blood stained illegitimate President of Zimbabwe, the root cause of over five million Zimbabweans seeking refuge in his own country.
Mugabe will not have been around today as the illegitimate President, had Mbeki persevered to remain neutral in the Zimbabwe saga. He is as much to be blamed as the other soft-spoken African Heads of State and Government who by their silence over the Mugabe killings allowed the monster Mugabe to continue to kill and terrorise innocent people for their political views.
In the present circumstances, the wisest course of action would be for the opposition not to join any unity government. They can let the ruling party govern as a minority government. The economy is in such a mess that it is best to let the ruling party try to sort it out. At least, the opposition parties cannot be blamed for the poor economic management. Laws of nature dictate that Mugabe will not live for ever. Once he dies the regime will collapse. I don't think the younger officers will listen to the geriatric generals in the army for ever. Thopposition should live to fight another day.
My brothers and sisiters this is Tsvangirai we are talking about he has earned himself a nickname Boycort. This is not new to Zimbabwe. Tsvangirai is not interested in the wellbeing of Zimbabweans but his own selfish interests. The country's economy is at stake here and not Tsvangirai's ego. The world should understand that constitutionally Mugabe is the legitimate President of this great nation. As a point of correction ZANU PF is led by MDC-T by one seat in parliament and leads the MDC-T by five seats in senate so ZANU PF has the majority. Tsvangirai has to come in the open who he reaaly stands for. If you listened to his latest demands for transitional power the same sentiments were echoed in South Africa by the British foreign minister word for word. Grow up Morgan you cant hold the whole nation at ranson.
Chiki, I have a feeling deep down your heart you agree with the fact that unless Mugabe is out of office the Zimbabwean economy will continue to slide! Sanctions will bite even further! Another factor is that as soon as Tsvangirai gets inot office, there will be overwhelming inflow of aid into Zimbabwe from the word go! Whether Mugabe legitimizes his stay in power or not, it is a fact, the economy will slide even further os much that the country if it was to be auctioned one day it would sell for US$1! That is where things are going!
There is no way MDC can dialogue in the current arrangement, it simply is not conducive. If Morgan went ahead, he will just be rubber stamping a sham system! He did well to absent himself!
Wrong the constitution says Morgan is the president! The runoff has to be held 21 days after the election and is was not! Morgan is the one that will be able to fix the economy because the world will give his government the money to fix the economy! Zimbabwe economy is about to implode and i fear its to late to stop it happening if Morgan is not in the place he rightfully won and the people voted as there leader.
It is only prudent that Tsvangirai didnt attend that meeting. First and foremost how can one for sure succumb to the idea that he should in the first place recognise Robert Mugabe as the duly elected President of Zimbabwe. No, NOT AT ALL. We saw what happened in the run offs. And if anything why instill threats on the African Heads at the AU summit. This only shows how cowardish Mugabe is. You can not say that do not condemn me over electoral fraud because it is the same path that you most african Presidents either found your way to plot one or retained power. That is total acceptance of illigitimacy. Come on Robert, you ageing and when the young turks realise their appetite for power it will be a disaster on you. You have made Zimbabwe if I may quote, ' A SINKING TITANIC'. Look at your currency, typical of Idi Amin, shame. Take a leaf from your comrade David Kenneth Kaunda, he is now a free citizen with his own projects. Its never late, just reform and you will enjoy your immunity in the society and the world at large. What the USA and America are demanding is for the interest of the Zimbabweans at the expense of yourself and a few cliques of your who are scared should you relinquish power now. Where does their future hang, they are misleading you. You will never rule for good, let alone die in office, time will catch up with you, you will account for your maladministration. LEARN TO LISTEN.
Wake up Zimbabweans. The man Mugabe is a dictator, find some new blood. Robert is just in the departure lounge.
Mbeki, get the African Union Mediator involved to assist in the creation of a transitional government. People don't trust you because you are underlying to the debacle in Zimbabwe. Now you want to be recognized as the hero that can save Zimbabwe. You can't be trusted to lead the mediation because your aim is to make schore political points. You dont believe in fairness, human rights and unity otherwise you would have aggressively worked to safe lives at all cost and have worked on a credible solution to have the 250,000 displaced people settled. We don't want the same situation as Kenya where things are so volatile and corruption of some members of the grand coalition is destroying everyone. In Kenya, the elections were rigged in favor of Kibaki. We need a transitional government with a clear pathway to the restoration of democracy, human rights and the economy. We dont need more of Robert Mugabe; he is stuck in the revolution rhetoric and doesnt know how to recover an economy. The West should go a head and personally impose sanctions on all members of Zanu PF in government and impose travel bans, revoke the student visa's, work visa's in all categories and practical internship for all those aligned to Zanu PF. Mugabe should not address any international meeting of the UN or its affiliates, or no AU meeting and should not be addressed or recognized as President to give him any legitimacy. Let his cohorts of the same Feather Jammeh and Bonga give him political asylum in their countries that are shamefully destitute. You can hide but for so long. No African country will take the risk to accept you in asylum and have you living like a prince with your ugly faced wife in their country when you oppressed and disrupted people's lives for 28 years. Since a certain reader bragged about the highest literacy rate in Zimbabwe and that we should be proud of Mugabe, it has become obvious that this reader with all the big mouth he has doesnt have the ability either to rescue their own country.
