Zimbabwe: Opposition Fears Mugabe is Trying to Wipe Out Its Parliamentary Majority - The Nation

Zimbabwe's main opposition party says it fears President Robert Mugabe wants to wipe out its parliamentary majority through arbitrary arrests, and even killings, of its newly elected lawmakers.

MDC, the worst mistake that could be made is to unite with the illegal powers that are. They cannot be trusted as seen with the violence throughout the run up to the Run-off and the holding of voting results after the first round. its amazing how slowly the results were released after the first round yet the day after the run off they were announced. Smells fishy. infact it has the ZANU PF Dung smell all over it. Good luck MDC, dont be fooled by junior Hitler.

Mugabe has thr trademark of Adolff Hitler and Pol Pott. MDC dont get yourself in bed with him...he is killing you all out one by one because he rules with an iron fist...his liberation moment lost its momentum more than 2 decades ago when the economy jsut took a nose dive...We need the international community to intervene with US Troops

Akafunboy, it has come to my, and others on these boards attention that you seem to be very selective in your posts. I.e when faced with a question you dont like, or are backed into a corner, you simply ignore it. So when you have time, please answer the following 2 questions:

1)How can you support and condone Mugabe after he is blatantly willing to murder, beat and torture his own people to keep power, evidenced by the many murders of MDC supporters over the election period?

2)Why is Mugabe negotiating with the MDC? Why do they even care? They have a 'landslide' victory in what they perceive to be a fair poll, so what do they care what the MDC wants? Particular that they see the MDC is simply a puppet of the west, why do they feel the need to negotiate, as they see it, with the west? I thought they didnt want to be colonised again? So why negotiate?

Myself and others await your response.

I would certainly disagree that US troops are the answer to this situation ..... for any solution to hold water (either political or military) it has to come primarily from within Africa, regardless of external assistance.

MDC before going into any alliance wih Mugabi, your attention should be drown into one name, "JOSUAH NKOMO". A word to a wise is enough.

It is all up to the opposition to hold the tide otherwise the quest for parliamentary majority is the only constant in politics. The majority of MDC cadres were once ZANU and there is no excuse about it.

I certainly agree that the Tsvangirai MDC should at all cost avoid the GNU like the one between Joshua NKhomo - Zapu and Mugabe-Zanu. The GNU is part of the problems we are having in Zimbabwe right now. Oppossition parties maintain checks and balances within gov'ts. When Zimbabwe became a one party state, there was no disert and Mugabe become the absolute ruler of Zimbabwe. That was a terrible mistake that Tsvangirai should avoid!

Even though Tsvangirai won the elections, the reality is, he still is the oppossition leader. Being an oppossition leader can be very positive for the country as well. Tsvangirai need to play his cards close to his chest. Not just be pandering to the western world, but be more responsive to Zimbabwe and come up with ideas on how to improve the lives of Zimbabwean poor. In other words he should become a leader whose goal is to serve the people of Zimbabwe. The MDC is the largest oppossition party in Africa and Tsvangirai should be seen be Zimbabweans as the one who will solve their problems. far too many people view Tsvangirai as a puppet of the western regimes or that his interest is to destroy black Zimbabwean farmers. I would like to see some leadership from him.

Nice post Phiri. For once I agree with you. The problem is whether people are willing to accept the MDC as the oppostion party given they have the will of the people behind them.
