THE three Buganda Kingdom officials, who were arrested on Friday on charges of terrorism and inciting violence, have been taken to various Police stations in western Uganda.
This is a case of chicken coming back home to roost. If it wasn't for the fawning, unquestioned and unquestionable support Museveni received from Buganda's Luwero the country wouldn't be living in the current tyranny. When you come down to it, Museveni is essentially Buganda's creation; the rest of Uganda save his home region, the west, have suffered while Buganda, the central region, looked on like the rest of the country was not part of Uganda. The unspeakable crimes against innocents that Museveni and his NRM committed in northern and eastern regions are a matter of historical record now; and for that the affected people in those regions have rightly rejected him politically. To add insult to injury when he goes to campaign in those regions he has the insolence to tell them that they shouldn't expect development assistance from his adminstration or government if they don't vote for him. Granted the Buganda Kingdom may have had their grievances towards Obote but that was no reason for many Ugandans including Baganda, for over two decades, to turn a blind eye to numerous atrocities that Museveni and his militia committed on the people of northern and eastern Uganda. Museveni was and is always a power hungry liar and a military dictator. The country should have learnt to comdemn this blatant manipulation and abuse of the court, police, military, and legal systems to maintain a political stranglehold on the country by arbitrarily depriving people of their freedom, political rights, and unfortunately as it has so often happened their lives too. This is no less than a bloody tyranny, however you intellectualise or rationalise it. Why the central region keeps voting for and supporting this dictator belies reason. Is it just because he hated and still hates Obote and UPC ? Now every region except the west looks like they have been fooled and insulted for the last 22 years. Museveni knows he cannot compete politically, so he has to resort to the only methods he has known and used all his life: militant and militaristic coercive means to acquire and retain power. Even Idi Amin had professors, intellectuals, professionals, and lawyers in his governments. That proved irrelevant to kind of reign of brutality and terror that he unleashed then as NRM does now because in autocratic tyrannies all power resides in one man: the president. Now it looks like Uganda will have to go through this militaristic bloody oppression for another 22 years! Good luck.
