Zimbabwe: Zanu (PF) No-Show Stalls Country's Talks - Business Day

POWER-sharing talks between Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu (PF) and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), which were due to start in an undisclosed location in Pretoria yesterday, were delayed as Zanu (PF) officials failed to arrive.

Well well well... This is a wonderful way to show that you're an advocate of a unified Zibabwe! Don't show up.

Careful there afrikan...it wont be long and you will be labelled a white rhodie racist by the mugabe lovers on here. they will probably come up with the "plausible" excuse that mugabe and his thugs overslept or something...or possibly ran out of fuel on the way to SA...LOL

There is no excuse for this really. Surprising though, I was expecting Mugabe to show up, and appear to be doing everything expected of him, but fail to make any concessions. He just needs to be seen to be doing the right thing to get through this. (which is a shame) so why draw attention to yourself by not turning up? Pretty dumb by Mugabe.

OOoh Yes Yes Yes BAASI!!! Yes murungu wedu BAASI!!!

I shouldnt have to point this out to you aka, but seeing as your intellect is continually in question, I will. The idea of using the internet as a means of communication only works when people you wish to communicate with speak the same language as your communication. I could speak in my native tongue also, but what would the point of that be? But to be fair, I couldnt care less what you say anyways, so you can just disregard the above.

Mugabe is petty. He is a petulant child who is not getting his own way. His self-destructive tendencies will be his undoing. He behaves like a three year old. I noticed on TV on Monday night when they announced that the two sides had signed a memorandum of agreement and everyone was shaking hands, Mugabe deliberately broke the handshake between Tsvangirai and another man who was standing next to Mugage. Mugabe has no intention whatosever of sharing power - he is happy that the people of Zimbabwe go on suffering - their suffering doesn't even enter his mind or if it does, his attitude is 'that's not my problem' they are dispensable and disposable and have no more value than cattle'. He will never grow up.

Maverick Mugabe has always failed to show due respect to his people. Spiting over the MoU he signed recently by delaying the arrival of his delegation by 48 hours within the allocated fortnight to strike a peaceful transition, he is now making himself a laughing stock to the world!!

Is he not under the direct control of the Army and the Police who know they have most to lose and hence their interest to torpedo the talks??

The MoU keeps silent over what should happen after the fortnight in case of a failure to reach an agreement. In fact, our suspicion is that Mugabe cronies will torpedo the talks so that maverick Mugabe could stick to power and unleash terror until most Zimbabweans run away to seek refuge in neighbouring countries!

An illegitimate President without subjects but surrounded by his cronies! Another banana republic??

No, Never!! In one way or another the international community will have to come to the rescue of the innocent freedom loving Zimbabweans. Beware, wait until Zuma becomes President early next year. Mbeki will not be there anymore to protect the maverick.

A bad beginning by Mugabe's fault! He, together with his cronies, has to read the writings on the wall. If he wants a decent exit, he will have to sweat for it NOW. Otherwise, he must be aware the criminal proceedings are awaiting him and his cronies.

l will ask again what the hell does prem stand for.....Premature?. l wonder.whats all this noise about only yesterday Tsvangirai turned down the signing of the MoU you were quick to support him. This is the real world. wake up.

Well, every democrat should feek optimist about the talks supposed to lead to a transitional government.

Where are we? Over 500 MDC supporters are still in detention. The Commissioner of Police is still in his post. The Mugabe cronies in the Army are also very much in control. Mugabe has been indifferent to the killings, maiming and rape conducted in view of preventing an MDC victory. Did Mugabe not say recently that the bullet is mightier than the pen!!

How to trust an illegitimate President when he fails to show up at the agreed time and date after signing the MoU in front of the world? It speaks a lot about how he treats his subjects!!

There should be a clear signal of a U-turn in Zimbabwe. Any attempt by Mugabe and cronies to cling to power behind the scene will render Zimbabwe a lame duck towards recovery.

Mugabe is not only hampering the socio-economic development of Zimbabwe, but of the whole SADC region and beyond. Should it be said that Zimbabwe has all the incredients to build a flourishing economy where every son and dughter can have a place in the sun! Had it not been Mugabe's murderous plundering role.

By not attending the meeting, Mr. Mugabe has shown his respect for Mr. Mbeki.
