On Tuesday, July 22, 2008 President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf signed into law "An Act to amend chapters 14 &15 Sub-Chapter (c), Title 26 of the Liberian Code of Laws Revised, known as the New Panel Code Law of 1976, by adding thereto four new sections thereby making the crimes of armed robbery, terrorism and Hijacking, respectively, Capital offences, and providing punishment thereof."
This President is always playing to the intelligent of the Liberian people. If she really wants the people who commit such a crime to be punished, than she should not be talking about revisiting the law. The law should awaits it violators if it is going to be used as deterrent to warn it violators that we mean business and not business as usual where people like her children will commit such a crime and go by for free as our law is doing today. she is only playing to the call of the international community questioning her reason for signing the bill into law. As a matter of facts, the bill did not go far enough to protect victims of rape which i consider very serious crime. She needs to send a very strong and serious message to people like her present Chief Justice, Hon. Johnny N. Lewis who has been raping women from the 70s until just recently in 2002.The current one he did when he was under the employment of the united Nations in Bosnia for which he was sacked and without checking his background, she brought him here to be a Chief justice of this war torn country just as if there was no Liberian good enough to be a Chief Justice but a rapist like Lewis. I do not know what kind of respect she has for her fellow women who are victims of rape and I also think the question she raised about her attempted rape when she was in jail was also made up, otherwise, she would have reacted differently to the many calls people have been making about Johnny Lewis's behavior as a rapist of several women.I do not know how she feels about her S.E.A (Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of women )program she advocating all over Africa on behalf of woman when her Chief Justice is a major Abuser of the people she trying to protect.Does that not equal to contradiction. President Sirleaf cannot be trusted. We thought she was an iron lady but she turned out to be mesh potatoes. Liberians will never change and she will leave no legacy for her children and women of africa. She is a total shame.

I wouldn't have done any better. I believe that those who decided to commit a crime have already given up their basic human rights. For those who murder, I believe that they also have given up their rights to life. They should face the full wrath of the LAW. That goes to both citizens and peace Keepers. In this light, I fully support the president in signing the bill. When Crimes subside we can revisit and amend.
I will also encourage the President to seek properly equip the Police. In addition, rigorously clean up the police force so as to set an example of members of the force that engage in such criminal act. We don't need officers masked and rooming the streets at night attacking those they should be serving. This is very disconcerting.
Liberians in foreign countries are encouraging investors to put money in Liberia. Lets give them a reason to do so. Lets show them we are a reasonable risk. We can do this by cracking down on corruption and reducing the crime. I know Liberians can do it, I believe.
