South Africa, supported by China, is trying to persuade the United Nations Security Council to suspend the attempt to prosecute Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir for genocide and war crimes in Darfur. The United States, while opposing South Africa's current efforts, has hinted that it might support the move if the Sudanese government makes concessions to help bring peace to the region.

Gishola, Mbeki is right! Africa has troops right there in Sudan, Darfur. How about their safety! How about the ICC first consult with the African Union before trying to act like the imperial government!
The ICC decision has future implications, as to whether an organisation such as the ICC can unilateral override African gov'ts. Africans may not renew the mandate of the ICC if it starts acting like a government. A number of countries are not even members. The USA is not a member.
The ICC must respect African troops already in Darfur and acted poorly on this decision. The ICC was not created only to go after African despots or dictators, but also the Europeans. George Bush and Tony Blair should also be taken to the Hague, for that foolish, bastard, murderous decision to murder the people of Iraq.
We could also pull apartheid leaders and send them to the Hague. KEEP YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!!!
This attempt by South Africa is an indication of the understanding of South Africa's leadership of the real facts concerning this unwarranted and unjust indictment by ICC and the constant effort by South African leadership to protect the enbattled black African countries from the constant and unyielding destabilizing forces of the US. South Africa is the vanguard bearer of the black African countries.
