THE inclusion of two companies quoted on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange on the United States sanctions list is an unprecedented development which has far-reaching ramifications on Zimbabwe's political landscape.

The writer is expressing concern that the USA, by targetting the 2 companies, could give Mugabe arguments with his people to the effect that the American Government was bent by their sanctions on increasing unemployment and drying up loans to farmers.
There may be a point there for Mugabe cronies to exploit. However, the people in general in Zimbabwe know very well that Mugabe is the main cause of their problems. They have already pronounced themselves through the ballot box.
They have dumped tyrant Mugabe. Nobody should go along the flawed statistics put forward by the Electoral Commission. Mugabe's defaet has been overwhelming.
Nothing less than his handing over executive power should be entertained in the talks. In the meantime, the independent media should adamantly refer to Mugabe as the illegitimate President.
