ZIMBABWEAN President Robert Mugabe is in a tight spot on how to form a functioning new government after a smaller faction of the opposition he banked on for a coalition said it would not work with him.

Prem you are always spot-on.It is definitely true that the days for Mugabe are numbered and I guess it is the people themselves that will forcefully effect that operation.Mugabe and his thugs are so over-confident that past brutal tactics used to coward the citizens still exists. They will be in for a rude shock pretty soon.
Prem, spot on again. All eyes now on the walking disaster mbeki and his nonsensical "quiet diplomacy" crap!! Cant see him recovering his credibility now..whatever he had left.
Lunatic..murderer..bloodsucker...stupid ...and on and on add nauseam. All these vulgar expletives do not add anything to the solution of the problems being faced by Gt Zimbabwe. All you do is shout insults. I am glad that even Tsvani would not pay much attention to you. By the way what do you see as a solution to the current impasse? RMG is not going away because he is a politician. Politicians do not do that ...not even in the USA and the UK where there are congressmen and MPs who have been in parliament for more than 40 years. Whats the way forward, baasi?
Because you are mesmerised Aka., you do not want a solution! Mugabe's tunes of white & West bashing keeps you in a state of slumber.
The solution is simple; so simple you do not want to believe it!
The lunatic gives back executive power, allows parliament to run democratically. This should lead to depoliticization of the Police and the Army, declaring judges independent, retiring all cronies in public interest, the set up of an agricultural development bank to boost agriculture to feed people, putting up an extensive programme to rehabilitate public infrastructures, gradually build up industry transforming local raw materials, a concurrent programme for the return and resettlement of the refugees.
One billion Euros are at the disposal of a properly constituted democratic government.
I hope this goes a long way to help you switch your allegiance from a bloodstained, bloodsucker criminal to whoever a democratic parliament chooses to lead. You know the answer already.
We encourage people to change mind for the better. Will you cross the line? Welcome, if you choose to. otherwise, you will be swept off your feet too by the evermounting voices for meaningful change.
Negotiators will never achieve anything positive when dealing with the likes of RGM. He is determind to keep on ruling at all cost. Maybe it is because of his great contribution in the liberation struggle. I was just checking his profile, he was really a great man,(THEN). All that greatness is now being eroded.
aka...in your hysterical haste to defend the thug mugabe you muddled up your argument. In the states no person can serve in office for more than two terms and once served he can never run for that office again..which is why the likes of clinton and guilliane(former mayor of new york) stepped down..EVEN though the american people wanted them to stay on. It was against the constitution to hang on. In Britain Thatcher stepped down and was replaced by major when her mps got fed up with her..major in turn was dumped by the electorate and the foolish blair took over..blair, having the common sense to see the dark clouds of economic gloom on the horizon stepped down and brown took over.. In all of the above not a single shot was fired..no lives lost, not a single person beaten for his political affilliations..Now contrast that with the RT Honorable Robert Mugabe's zanupf's election campaign....case closed!!! In light of that I think we are entitled to the odd name calling and insult throwing...it pales into nothing compared to the killing and raping etc of you beloved mugamboro!!
Akapfunde, just get rid of the creep - the lunatic, murderer, bloodsucker and stupid vampire Mugabe.
When I see and hear people saying all sorts of things about Mugabe it makes me sad. It time people new how to separate bad from good. Mugabe is strong and stubborn due to the following issues: 1. President Thabo Mbeki’s unwavered support of the dictatorship 2. The army and police forces of Zimbabwe and 3. The rampant corruption and dictatorship of all African leaders.
Without support for Mugabe from the above establishements influenced and inspired by Mbeki’s quite diplomacy, Mugabe is no more and would be history.

Commenter akafunde1 has made two very serious errors in comparing RGM (the politician who will not leave) to US and UK legislators. The most glaring is that RGM heads up the Executive Branch of the government, not the Legislative; a huge difference. The longest serving Prime Minister of the UK (in modern times) is Tony Blair at 10 years (1997-2007). In the US it was FD Roosevelt at 12 years (1933-1945), though now presidents are allowed a max of 2 terms (8 years). In the legislative branch there have been indeed some who have served 40 years or more, but they had to be reelected for every term. (In the US it’s every 2 years for a representative and 6 for the senate.) The biggest difference between RGM & co. and the aforementioned is being Elected Fairly (by Secret Ballot in all US elections and most seats in the UK parliment), in Open Elections that involved no torture, no intimidation by the authorities, no soldiers ‘helping’ one choose, and finally, the ability of citizens out of the country are still afforded the right to vote. Oh, and while Prem may use some very insulting terms, they are all quite accurate!
"Commenter akafunde1 has made two very serious errors in comparing RGM (the politician who will not leave) to US and UK legislators. The most glaring is that RGM heads up the Executive Branch of the government, not the Legislative; a huge difference"
Actually the biggest between the others you mentioned (FDR,TB,etc.) and RGM is that RGM had to actually fight a war to regain his country before becoming its leader and that's an even greater difference. He has earned the right to stay as long as the people vote for him, western lies about how, notwithstanding.
Sadly, you misunderstand the concept of "term limits". It was precisely the Presidency of F.D.R. that caused the American republic to amend the Constitution of the U.S. to limit the Presidency to two four-year terms. It was the fear of a cult of personality (a la ZANU-PF/Mugabe) controlling the mechanism of democracy to extend the Presidency to more than eight years that caused the amendment to the Constitution to limit the Presidency to no more than two consecutive four-year terms....... This in stark contrast to the situation in Zimbabwe where a leader of the liberation movement feels that they have some "God-given" right to rule until death (eerily similar to the medieval European concept that Kings were somehow ordained by God).....
It is this limitation of the Presidency, in America, that precludes the idea of a "Presidency for life" is that all leaders must eventually bow to the electorate in order to facilitate a peaceful transfer of power. ZANU-PF/Mugabe has never had to concern itself with the idea of "term limits". If ZANU-PF/Mugabe had recused itself from re-election after his second term, none of the abuses of power that came to Zimbabwe would have occurred. They would have been the result of another President.
How ironic that African nations should revert to the 18th century European idea that Kings(Presidents) are ordained/imbued with power for life when they continually shout that Africa is somehow different than Europe.........
For a pluralistic democracy to occur in Zimbabwe, I would whole-heartedly agree that no President should serve more than two terms! That way, each party is obliged to obtain an electoral mandate via elections! Mugabe has served many terms without a legitimate electoral majority. It is by the consent of the people that one governs.
11,000,000% inflation, 80% unemployment and 30% of the population in diaspora that illustrate the shortcomings of Mugabe's leadership!
This is not an argument about ZANU-PF/Mugabe, it is a factual display of their failure of leadership! If inflation was only 11% and unemployment was only 8% and the diaspora was only 10%, then the outcry would not be so great!
However, ANY Government (whatever the reasons, be it domestic or foreign) who presided over 11,000,000% inflation and 80% unemployment and 30% of the population in diaspora DESERVES to be kicked out of office! No matter what the causes of Zimbabwe's current economic situation (by "Western sanctions or otherwise), the government of ZANU-PF/Mugabe has FAILED to provide for the people of Zimbabwe!
The absolute first policy of ANY government is to feed it's own people - the government of ZANU-PF/Mugabe has FAILED! The next is to preserve the domestic peace - the government of ZANU-PF/Mugabe has FAILED by utilizing so-called "war veterans" (who are too young to have fought in the war of liberation) to suppress their political opponents. Finally, a legitimate government have no need to fear the results of an electoral result! How do you reconcile the results of the 3/08 election with the results of the 7/08 election? Even SADC declared the election was not "free and fair". How does legitimacy come from that?
Simply put, ZANU-PF/Mugabe lost the 3/08 election because the "people" were dissatisfied by the results of their governance. In response, ZANU-PF/Mugabe sought to impose their rule upon Zimbabwe through intimidation, torture and murder for the 7/08 election. MDC-T and MDC-M offer an alternative to the policies of ZANU-PF/Mugabe - Democratically, they should be allowed a chance to govern to see if their policies will benefit the people of Zimbabwe more than the policies of ZANU-PF/Mugabe - this is a simple test.........
If "Western" governments prefer a government of MDC in Zimbabwe, they are free to propose policies with an MDC government that they feel are best for the people of Zimbabwe. If ZANU-PF/Mugabe prevail, it is already clear that the governments of the "West" want nothing to do with ZANU-PF/Mugabe - let the people, and the policies of their government, decide what is the best for Zimbabwe!
The FACT that the governments of the "West" (AND China by the way) do not want to invest in a Zimbabwe led by Comrade Bob, should be evidence enough of the moral bankruptcy of ZANU-PF/Mugabe -- but, if the population of Zimbababwe chooses to remain steadfast with Comrade Bob, then they will have made their decision, and it should be respected - however, do not rely on continued goodwill from the "West" for humanitarian or food aid - you will have "voted with your feet" and you will recieve what you deserve.........
"Author: juhlman Sadly, you misunderstand the concept of "term limits". It was precisely the Presidency of F.D.R. that caused the American republic to amend the Constitution of the U.S. to limit the Presidency to two four-year terms."
Happily, I know as much about term limits in the US as you do. And it was the system's vulnerability to corruption rather than "cult of personality" that drove the enactment of term limits. Manipulation of the democratic process by those with the most money and least scruples made it necessary to limit the length of time that a party stays in power in order to limit the damage that corrupt politicians can do. In any case, this is an American problem that has nothing to do with the situation in Zimbabwe. What Zimbabwe needs most is strong leadership dedicated to protecting the interests of the indigenous population. They need to regain their resources and their sovereignty. And if this is best obtained by keeping a leader in office for as long as needed, then so be it. Who says that an African country must follow what is done in the U.S.? The fact is the U.S. is having it's own problems with this system even with term limits, as the last 8 years shows us. About now it looks like the change should have been limited to one two-year term. As for the irony of African nations reverting to 18th century European ideas about kings and presidents, are you saying the current monarchy in England is outdated and should be ended forthwith? Are you trying to say that the Queen of England, who has been the leader of her nation since 1953, should quit so that the people will not continue to subject to the "cult of personality"?
How in hell do you come up with the statement "Mugabe has served many terms without a legitimate electoral majority", since African and other objective observers concluded that all previous elections were fair and conducted according to the country's constitution. The high inflation and unemployment rates are a direct results of the western sanctions imposed on the country in order to "make the economy scream" and institute a regime change so that Zimbabwe doesn't succeed in their effort to regain control over their resources. It has little to do with Mugabe's leadership which seemed to be just fine with Britain and her friends until he became serious about regaining the country's natural resources from the settlers. As for the 3/29/08 elections being reconciled with the June 27 run-off it's quite simple. On 3/29, in the country's first harmonized elections, the presidential candidate for MDC got about 48% of the presidential vote while ZANU-PF candidate (Mr. Mugabe) go about 42%. And as you know the Zimbabwean constitution specifically states that if no candidate gets 51% of the vote then there must be a run-ff between to two top vote getters. Hence we had the run-off scheduled for June 27th that MDC-T agreed to take part in.
First of all, there was a lot of voter confusion in the 3/29 election because it was the first time that harmonized elections were held in the country and it took a long time to count and reconcile the vote. A similar thing occurred in Mozambique a few years ago. So your statement about ZANU-PF losing the 3/28 election is wrong, they could have only lost if MDC-T go 51% which they did not. So now we get to the run-off election as mandated by the constitution, and the MDC-T candidate finds out that he is likely to lose the run-off due to stepped-up campaigning by ZANU-PF so he pulls out of the run-off just five (5) days before election day. The election authority ruled that you can't do that legally therefore the election went on as planned as they would have in almost any other country in the world. MDC-T's candidate was badly beaten by the ZANU-PF. You are right about the western governments having a right not to invest in a country headed by Mr. Mugabe but you are wrong about China because they are investing a lot in Zimbabwe. As for the West providing humanitarian and food aid to Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe would probably be better off without it and all the baggage that it brings and instead look for assistance from countries who have shown to be their true friends to help them out of their sanctions-imposed economic crisis.
The wicked fox has been doing this since 1980. Quite a veteran at the wrong things. A thorn in the flesh to his nation and a real disaster to humanity generally. It is good that there is eventually a way out, when he eventually dies of age and natural causes in the course of time.
prem, you must be a fortune teller! We zimbabweans are better than the poverty which we are experiencing. Is it not true that when people grow old, they start thinking like babies? Maybe thats what happening to this ruler
Cronies and thugs of Mugabe should draw his attention that Charles Taylor appeared before the ICC yesterday. He was complaining that he was chained at his waist!
What complaints would bloodsucker Mugabe have for bad treatment? What a cheek dictators have to complain about the lack of comfort when they buthchered innocents just to ensure they cling to power?
Go away Mugabe! Go away! before the axe falls on you!
prem...nooo nooo..dont warn the stinking little murderer to go away ...we want the axe to fall on his head..nice and slow and then we can display his head on the outskirts of harare to remind potential dictators of what happens when the tide turns...next will be the chief police a-hole and the army chief..they too need their empty heads lopped off and put on public display!!! soon!!!!
Turnex, you are lucky your white minority dictator Ian Smith died a natural death. I would have loved to see him hanged or in a prison cell in the Hague. I don't think the Hague has solved any international problem in the world. It is full of mistrials and smells "eurocrates" all over the place. I guess it is a way for europeans to feel good about themselves. Otherwise, it is a worthless organizations. I'm surprized that George Bush has not be summoned to the Hague or was it just created for African dictators and weak european countries. The ICC is completed useless!
There you go again Phiri , all that anger in you ! You accuse Smith of being a dictator , funny how well he worked with the true leaders of Zimbabwe, the Tribal Chiefs, not half baked liars placed there by Russia , China and other future colonists ! I'm sure you would have loved to see him hanged, only fools who know nothing of the attrocities Mugabe and Nkomo's thugs meted out on poor Zimbabweans because they refused to give sanctuary to terrorists, would wish this! I don't want Mugabe to stand trial at the Hague at all, I just want those thugs that claim to be the Zimbabwean police and army (all terrorists, tsotsis and skarabangas at best), to stand aside and let the oppressed Zimbabwean people handle Mugs and his thugs, we'd see who got hanged then , maybe even you Phiri, come to think of it , for all your evil thoughts, maybe you should be sent to Chikarubi !
Djoser, which countries that have shown to be true friends to the Mugabe regime would consider giving any humanitarian aid to Zimbabwe? If there are, why have they not done so up to now? Because there are none, zilch, nada, zero. Not china, not Russia not Cuba not Malaysia not even SADC. It is always the West opening its heart to you ungrateful lot. It is for this very reason that idiot Mugabe has lifted his stupid ban that he imposed on the work of foreign aid three months ago because there is no one else out there. The suspension of these operations deprived more than a million people of assistance especially those with HIV AIDS. Last year the united States of America donated 171 million dollars in food aid. More was donated this year of which Mugabe not only used for political ends against his own people but stole 20 metric tons of food that was meant for children and handed it out to his fat greedy Zanu-pf bastards at a rally. For that the American ambassador to Zimbabwe has requested that the United states be reimbursed. Teach Mugabe a bloody lesson.
What a rotten mess lunatic Mugabe is bent on creating? Controlling power at all costs even by keeping the country at random!
He is turning out from a hero to perpetuate himself not only as a murderer, bloodsucker and paranoiac, but also as the greatest hurdle for the economic emancipation of Zimbabweans.
These are the last signs of a dying ruthless dictator clinging despertely to power.
Stupid Oxford-educated Mutambara, mesmerised by the devil Mugabe, had to be rought down to reality by his MPs ready to cross the floor if ever he pactises with the monster.
Bleeding Zimbabweans have already started a second liberation war. This time to liberate their mind out of the hatred Mugabe planted therein over time. If the dictator refuses to leave, the majority will deal him as they would against a notorious criminal. mark it. The DAY is fast approaching.
