Also, not only is Zim one of the frendliest countries in SADC it is also, by far and despite everything, one of the safest and most peaceful countries in all of Africa and, by extention, all of the the developing world the world over.

My Dea Phiri, the land issue can only be solved by having recourse to international standards. All concerned parties will have to go through a high-powered commission to negotiate for a fair compensation. By all parties, I mean those who claim land was robbed away from them, those who claim they bought their land, those who claim land was given to them by the state for development purposes, communities dispossessed of large tracts of land, recent farmers whose farms were taken away, etc. It will be a slow process, yet it is he only way the international institutions would be brought onboard.

There is no need to kill, main and rape in order to prevent land from reverting to former owners. By the way, the MDC never said it will revert confiscated land to their former owners!

Even though Kirsty did a marvelous performance at the Olympics, I do no not think it is right for Mugabe to have given her such a large sum of money especially at a time when there are so many needs in your country. Mugabe has not been chasing whites away as is evidenced by the number of whites enjoying the extreme good life in Zimbabwe and staying noticably quiet.

Selector, Mugabe has only proved what a reckless spender with the coffers of Zimbabwe he is. How many pairs of Bata shoes would some of that money have purchased to help some kids walking long distances to school? Many Olympiads have brought gold silver and bronze medals back to their home countries but they earn their money through company endorsements, unless their governments are fiscally sound to do so. Zimbabwe is not. Mugabe is just a show-off and if he cares so much why does he make conditions such at home, that Kirsty has to leave her home in Zimbabwe to live and train in the United States. Out of over 12 million Zimbabweans, do you mean to tell me that there are no talented children in all kinds of sports who would qualify for the Olympics? There are, and it is only because Mugabe has destroyed every aspect of Zimbabwe that these children are missing out and instead are being trained to maim and murder. Kirsty you are just one fine young lady and through you, many of your young Zimbabwean brothers and sisters will know that there is something better out there. Continue doing your best.

kjrs, I've figured the USD100k equates to circa £56k or about £14,000 per annum for a gold medal Olympian. Like most top swimmers Kirstie trains out in America and I can see no problem with her government funding her to such a ridiculously small amount.

In contrast, in the UK, circa £100million per year is spent on Olympic sports, much of that coming from the National Lottery, aka a poor man's tax.

It's better Zimbabwe funds a daughter, imo, than have her do what so many of other of Africa's top athletes do and go and compete under a European, Scandanavian or even an American flag of convenience and win medals for a country other than their bornland.

It's great to see an African daughter winning an Olympic medal for her African homeland. More of the same, please.

It is a great shame that Mugabe has destroyed your country and has concentrated on murdering citizens instead of providing facilities like other governments, lottery or no lottery, that are conducive to the likes of Kirsty and all future athletes to train at home.

When she was interviewed this August she said, "I'd like to shine a positive light on Zimbabwe and raise the flag a little higher than it is right now". It is Kirsty who is passing the baton of patriotism and love for her country and NOT Mugabe. Whilst this young lady is trying to raise Zimbabwe's flag, what is her president doing? He is busy doing what he knows best - thuggery and lowering his county's flag by his continued intimidation, false arrests, murders, bribing judges and lawlessness. Her millions of brothers and sisters and herself would not have fled to other countries had it not been for Mugabe. What has saved her parents from Mugabe's wrath is that they are not in farming. If what you say about Mugabe is true I really don't see the difference between you and him. You are no good for Zimbabwe and that is not where the country needs to go. Phiri, what facts have you ever had with which to challenge anyone? All you know are the words BBC, Rhodesia and Britain. That is as far as you know. As far as Zimbabwe is concerned, you are just a useless body existing there like a lump of dough with no drive for your country. All you do is go against anyone or even heads of state of other countries, who are repulsed by the wrongs murderer Mugabe is doing over there. Thank God I live in Canada! I think your olympic swimmer is fantastic but the state of your country is sad. The Ian Smith regime was systematically racist but the new regime is also a nightmare. I live in an area which is also facing land claims and possible redisturbution but by losing my home will not throw my country into an economic tailspin or leave people hungry. The native land claim process in Canada is long and drawn out but at least there is some rule of law and government in it. Many countries pay their Olympians when they get medals. Many countries support their Olympians better then Canada? In the United States, Coventry would make millions in endorsements. Maybe she can bring hope to your country and use some of that money to help your country better then the government does!
