During the Liberian civil-war, the Borough of New Kru Town, wedged outside Monrovia proper, and occupied by Prince Johnson's INPFL, was a safe haven for thousands of Liberians and foreigners who sought frantically for refuge. New Kru Town served as a major transit point for Liberians of all persuasions.
