The good thing is that there will be no by-elections for a year and that there will be a new constitution in 18 months. The bad thing is that Zanu PF effectively controls policy and is ill placed to stamp out corruption and greed, making it hard to resuscitate agriculture, the main stay of the economy. Worse still is the fact that this deservedly hated man called Mugabe continues to be in the international limelight, making it hard for the wider international community and Zimbabweans generally to agree that there has been any change. Neither would those wronged by the regime find justice, thus perpetuating the impression that government can get away with impunity forever. The really good thing is that slow change has started and gives a glimmer of hope for the poor Zimbambean teenagers who are still growing up in this country, unaware that circumstances could have been better with an accountable government.

Hopefully, the deal marks a true turning point for not only Zimbabwe, but southern Africa. It is important that the deal was brokered by Africans, for Africans. I believe that issues regarding agricultural land ownership and anglocentric collaboraters caused the entire mess. Therefore, it is important that Zimbabweans africanize their country and start believing more in themselves rather than the Jesus-preaching forked tongues of the west. Mugabe should allow land to get back to the hands of blacks in both the opposition as well as Zanu. If the white zimbabaweans want to create "little europe" within Zimbabwe, kick their butts out. If they want to be Zimbabweans who don't feel they are priviledged because they are white, then accommodate them as best you can. But get the land back to the original owners---the blacks.
