A great article! Indeed it would be fantastic to see Nigerian athletes running and jumping for Nigeria again! This article really addresses the issue adequately, although I think the route through American universities should not be the only one for the young athletes of Nigeria. Some sort of national programme should be possible to envisage given the riches of the country! The authorities should recognise the fact that Swiss accounts do not bring glory to the country's governments as much as sporting successes. Look at Jamaica! Governments are recognised for efficiency in international fields and sport being one deserves attention even from Nigerian government. Look at China - and their progrmmmes to show themselves; and we do not even have to go as far back as the former communist block who tried to establish its reliability through sports; but sporting exploits and heroes certainly do the best adverstisement for the country as people around the world begin to recognise the country, its flag, its anthem, the faces of its people... and we all warm up to their homelands... even the businessmen do - for who has not heard of Usain Bolt?! ...
