This Day (Lagos)
6 October 2008
All is now set for the grand finale of the 2008 THISDAY Music and Fashion Festival holding at Royal Albert Hall, London, United Kingdom, with former United States Secretary of State, General Colin Powell, scheduled to talk on the Festival's theme of "Africa Rising".

I believe, when Secretary Powel made the statement that all Nigerians are corrupt, it may be some truth on it. He was at the time dealing with the most corrupted and Dangerous Nigeria leader Sani Abacha. Powell is very intelligent man and we can forgive for such stupid mistake. But, Nigeria from bottom to top must change or we all will perish.
There is a difference between "some" and "most" and "all". For instance, we can't say that because there are "some" 419 kingpins hiding in the Senate and calling themselves "honorables" then we generalize and say that "ALL" Nigerian Senators are 419 kingpins or corrupt. Certainly, I am not corrupt neither am I a 419er but a Nigerian who is proud of his roots but for Colin to generalize and say that "ALL" Nigerians are corrupt is to accuse me personally of such criminal behavior. Colin, as he turned out to US Sec of States ended up LYING to the UN Gen Assembly that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, as a justification for the Iraq invasion, when, in fact, none could be found in Iraq after the invasion. As is customary in our African culture, words are like eggs, once broken, you can't put the whole back together again. Therefore, the need to be very cautious not to use words carelessly. Just because Colin is half-black does not mean he has the interest of Africans (Nigerians, in particular) at heart, "some" of them are even worse than "some" Whites I know. so, save me the lecture.
The same Colin Powell that said during Abacha's corrupt regime that "ALL Nigerians are corrupt" thereby giving the US media the carte blanche to generalize that ALL Nigerians are corrupt elements. With "brothers" like Colin, who needs enemies.
