As we remain grateful that the PDP is goal-directed in their quest to reshape the image of Nigeria, we must be very careful not to create an environment for a one party system to rule our country. The essence of an opposition party is to attempt to look at the same issues from a different prism thereby, giving Nigerians a choice to redefine itself in the context of a democratic interplay. When Nigeria became independent, it inherited three political parties, namely; the NPC, NCNC and the Action Group. The Northern People's Congress advocated for the interests of the North, while the NCNC advocated to interests of the Eastern platform, including, but not limited to Southern Cameroun and what later became the Mid-Western part of Nigeria. However, under the Action Group with Chief Awolowo at its helm, he observed the oppression that minority groups were facing especially, under the banner of the NCNC, and spiritedly moved for the creation of a Calabar-Ogoja-Rivers State. The by-product of these endeavours became the offshoot for Gen. Gowon's decision to create the original twelve ststes in the federation. Thus, therefore, these events took place because we chose NOT to have a One-Party System. Therefore, those who are too eager to join a successful party should always remember that "the grass is not always green on the other side". Nothing can be accomplished in this life without hard work.
