Drawing on examples such as Thabo Mbeki's role in damaging HIV/AIDS policies in the early 2000s and a current case in a San Franciso court against Chevron for 1998 murders in the Niger Delta, Patrick Bond argues that a similar process of critical treatment is appropriate for Barack Obama's new leading economic advisor, Paul Volcker.

My dear Friend & Brother,
If I never had a hunch back I would have put you and my back and tote you the various you will like to go.
Because African leaders are so complacent and dependent on the western countries to do everything for them even to the point to these countries must help them for their own children to ger marry.
You read in various newspaper a president or minister will embezzle millions of dollars but tne next day they sign a loan for $200,000.00 for development project. What a shame? Because when African leaders get into power, you do not see what they accomplish but would prefer to purchase a presidential jet, buy fleet of cars, keep money in Swiss banks, etc while their citizens or subjects die in abject poverty, illiteracy, disease, ignorance, hunger, and lack of knowledge. They easily like to shift blame to person like Paul Volcker or the likes. We have the resources if properly managed will benefit the continent and its citizens as a result of which, there will be no need for IMF or World Bank loans. Look at countries like Botswana or Libya with strong economies and are competitive on the international scene and are doing pretty well for their respective countries. African leaders should not forget that they have no control over Obama's cabinet ministers and advisors - these are people he believes will deliver superb services. So let the leaders of African put their own houses in order and put stop to graft, corruption, wasteful spending, and strive to develop the continent and its peoples.

"Sins against his father's people" is not an excuse for the economic woes of the future. African leaders cannot continue to be clueless and inept in order to move the continent forward. It is up to Africans to solve Africa's problems and not continue in the beggar bowls strategy. Africa sits on a huge chunk of the planet's minerals yet live off the crumbs of the world. There will be many Paul Volckers but breaking out of that circle depends on African leaders and not Obama!
