This Day (Lagos)
15 November 2008
The last is yet to be heard about the Leadership newspaper report on the alleged failing health of President Umaru Yar'Adua as the newspaper's top management staff have become guests of the Nigeria Police Command and the State Security Service (SSS).

The SSS is harassing these jornalists. And I think they have the right to sue these people for harassment if we are really practising democracy.Have they heard about speech freedom in a democratic society. The SSS should be used for the country's security and not harassing it's own people.
It is absolutely undemocratic for the SSS,a nd police to continue to detain journalists because of reports on the Presidents health It should be recalled that ONLINE journalists: JONATHAN ELENDU,and Emmanuel ASIWE were arrested, and detained upon their arrival from USA at the airport. At another time ,a TV station was closed all because they reported on the failing health of the president. The president has threatened court action. All these constitute attacks on freedom of the press. It is undemocratic. Mazianyaogu writes from USA.
