United Nations attack helicopters have mounted reconnaissance flights and "are poised to respond to any and all eventualities" in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) after rebel forces violated a ceasefire and seized a number of localities in some of the worst fighting in more than a week.

The top United Nations envoy to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) today expressed hope that the Security Council will shortly approve a request for 3,000 additional troops to buttress blue helmets already on the ground in the country's east, the scene of fierce recent conflict.

Now that the UN peacekeepers in DRCongo (Their French acronym: MONUC) are empowered to take real action we are expecting some good changes but not the balkanization of the country. Even thought DRCongo is big but it can be easily controlled as it was during president MOBUTU reign. Peace is the main issue and whenever resolved everything will work smoothly. Ethnic conflict do not exist in DRCongo. The Tutsi case is an exception as it was instigated from a neighboring country, if resolved things will be OK. DRCongo really needs peace as it has the potentiality to provide food for nearly 1 billion (1,000,000,000) while 1/3 of people on the planet are starving because of political conflicts and other issues. This vast nation in central Africa, surrounded by 9 (nine) countries needs peace for Africa stability. We hope that the new government in America, UK, France.... will put their potential in action to comfort DRCongo population.
