Somali pirates have "stunned" the United States' top military leader by seizing a supertanker three times as big as an aircraft carrier hundreds of nautical miles off the Kenya coast.

Firstly, the Marines and the Coast Guard are two separate branches of the US Military. Secondly the US Coast Guard protects the coast of the US. Thirdly, they do not police the world.
Who the hell writes this crap? The Sirius Star is 1000ft long. A US carrier is 1100ft long...fire your staff...
The Sirius Star has a gross tonnage of 162,250 and a capacity of 318,000. Nimitz class aircraft carriers have a laden weight of 88,000 metric tonnes. 480,250 versus 88,000: approximately 5 and a half times the size.
This is really mind boggling. Are these seas not supposed to be under guard from the coast guard marines? Why have these pirates been allowed to operate in these waters without being challenged? This is unbelievable.
