This is a fair assessment of the LRA/NRM debacle in Uganda. The really sad
and an unacceptable part is why the Ugandan government has been let off the
hook in terms of marginalising, disefranschisng and victimising the
northern populations.
The west, especially the USA, has done so just because the NRM is "fighting
terrorism" on the side of America, ignoring the fact that the NRM regime in
Kampala is equally busy "terrorising" northern Uganda at the same time
while manipulatively using "fighting terrorism" the American war to obscure
its dastardly actions and deeds in northern Uganda.
It is no wonder that the northerners are not enthused about the
LRA/Museveni fight as Museveni is not trusted and has lost credibility
through marginalising and disenfranchising an entire region that is half
the size of the country, even though, ironically, the north has born the
brunt of Kony's lunatic war.
It doesn't help that the supposedly neutral negotiators, Joachim Alberto
Chissano, UN Special Envoy and Former President of MozambiqueJoachim
Chisano, and ICC,International Criminal Court, are siding with the Kampala
government when it is obvious that in any conflict there are atleast two
antagonists involved. An environment where the Kampala regime is treated as
angels and LRA as the consumate evil is not conducive to a meaningful
dialogue and political settle.
As long as Museveni continues to play games with northerners and LRA (the
two are intricately connected) there will never be a permanent resolution
to the 23 years' political turmoil in northern Uganda.
