MDC-T LEADER Mr Morgan Tsvangirai has turned down President Mugabe's invitation to return to Zimbabwe and be sworn in as Prime Minister in accordance with the September 15 broad-based agreement signed between Zanu-PF, MDC-T and MDC.

JUST A BUNCH OF SCROUNGERS WHO YELL ABUSE AT THE PEOPLE WITH BIG HEARTS. BET U THEY WILL BE DESCENDING ON 20TH JANUARY IN USA LIKE VULTURES!!!!
I do not understand. How can Mugabe offer to appoint Tsvangirai as Prime Minsiter when Mugabe will only become President under the GNU agreement? I have read that his June election appointment was not legitimate. Even the current SA President has confirmed that Mugabe has to be appointed President under the proposed agreement!
Which Government is the Herald talking about? There is no government in Zimbabwe, yes if you are talking of Zanu PF bandits yes Morgan won’t join that. Zimbabweans spoke in March 2008 anything else is only designed to would be consolidating banditry. People who deny abducting other people, illegally detaining them and accusing them of conspiracies promote state banditry. Joining such a league is an insult to the suffering masses of Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans now live in abject poverty because of ill conceived policies and are still being perpetuated in the guise of preventing re-colonization. STUPID indeed.
Zimbzbwe is dying corpse. They took over Rhodesia, kicked out all the white guys and totally trashed the country. All the black veterans ran around beating anyone who was not a Mugabe supporter. It has become a communist state with a total dictator. And no one in Zimbabwe has the backbone to protest. Well happy new year folks in Zimbabwe. Enjoy your AIDs, Cholera, Starvation, and poverty. Bob Mugabe will make sure it keeps going. He and Grace don't give a damn about any of you. Rhodesia was a garden spot compared to today. I know I was there, and I have seen now.....it is sickening....The spirit of Rhodesia will endure, because the spirit of Zimbabwe is weak and dying.

You obviously can't read my friend, J'Law hates my guts because I am white, and I lived in your country when it was a nice place. Read more closely. Hate me if you want. I spent many glorious years in Rhodesia. Don't worry, I have a large cattle ranch in Texas and wouldn't think about coming back to Rhodesia....
Texasbob, your point is well taken that Zimbabwe is slowly dying and people do not have the guts to demonstrate or go after Mugabe the new oppressor. That Said, Rhodesia has never been the answer for the vast majority of Zimbabweans. Rhodesia under smith or Dr. Jameson was a very oppressive country. It is dishonest for you to claim that just because 1% of white Rhodesians were prosperous, therefore the whole country was also prosperous. For a few population (mostly 1% of whites) enjoyed all the resources. They were poll taxes, residential discrimination of the black majority, there was imprisonment of those who dared to challenge the "evil" Ian Smith. That is what is remebered!
Do not kid yourself, our fight for Zimbabwe is not to restore a white minority regime of Ian Smith and his murderous selous scout, but to bring true democracy to all. Just because a handful of whites in "Rhodesia were well off, does not make a country wealth. Professor Clark and others wrote extensively about the poverty of the Africans in the then Rhodesia. The spirit of Rhodesia died with Ian Smith, Just ask reasonable people like Kirsty Coventry!
Every time there is a glimmer of hope Mad Bob squashes it until everyone is sick and tired of the never ending saga. Tsvangirai must pull out of GNU and take to the streets. It will only take a little Puff to blow Bob away
Spoken like a true armchair revolutionary. Mugabe's house is filled with unspeakable horrors, but it's also made of brick and bullets. There will be no grassroots revolt against him, only a mass grave that will be stuffed with the bodies of millions in the end.
Tsvangirayi has two choices - to join the GNU or go into political oblivion. No one will follow him into the streets - Zimbabweans are too smart for that.
1700 body bags and counting. I wonder if Grace got all her shopping done.

The dogs of war are barking furious, less from a determination to bite, more from frustration that the script has failed -- yet again. The link between facile Western journalism and war jingo, indeed the link between crass Eurocentric journalism and white wars abroad, seems never hidden.

What a ridiculous verbiage, Mugabe is not the elected President, the world knows it, the people of Zimbabwe know it and the MDC knows it.
There is a reason the MDC won't participate in this charade, 2009 is their year.
I's so obvious even to kids! It's the vile murderer bloodstained Mugabe!
for sure prem! a leopard never changes its spots it is only a chameleon that changes colour!!! with its surroundings!!!

They are a bunch of racist swines that cant handle defeat. - Sounds a lot like Mugabe if you ask me...
You are so stupid kabangapenga , everyone knows Zimbabwe will always be Zimbabwe, but working together we formed a strong chain , Blacks and Whites but apart our land is a mess because satanyoko like you have stupid racism worse than any Rhodesian in your heart. The Rhodesians left , the whites who stayed were Zimbabweans. The racism is from the Shona mamparas who hate whites and Matabeles alike because the Shona are the dregs of Africa. The good for nothing losers are matanyuris like you who have your way with little boys by night then act like men in the day. Our Zimbabwe is a loser because of your types , matanyuris by night , pretend men in the day time.
The author is obviously biassed towards ZPF and name calling will not help resolve the Zim situation. However, MT should not be putting one condition after another, we can not afford to go on forever without a governenment in Zimbabwe given the desperate situation in the country. These politicians from both parties are demonstrating that all they want is power at whatever cost, even if it means that the country be wiped off by hunger and disease, they will continue bickering as to who should have more power and point fingers at each other. The people need leadership, this is the time of need, but politicians seem to want to exploit the suffering of the people for their political gains. The country needs a 3rd force that will punish both ZPF and MDC for failing to rise to the occasion when the people are dying. MT, RG and AM should just be banned from travelling outside Zim till they sort out the mess.
Why do you lump RG and AM with MT when we all know it is MT holding the nation to ransom? RG and AM have been ready to form a government since the SADC ruling in November. We do not need a third force, we need unpatriotic people like MT to be booted out of office so that the nation can move forward. The process of firing MT has started - South African government has released AID after realizing that MT was the only obstacle to the formation of a government.
This is such a joke, but that is what the Herald is....a total joke. There will be no inclusive government with Mugabe and ZANU. They will never let MDC share power. Zimbabwe is a totalitarian government run by a dictator. He has stated in public that "Zimbabwe is Mine." Kind sounds like Hitler in 1936. It is pretty evident the Zim's can't govern and so 2009 will be a lot like 2008......thousands will die of Cholera and AIDS and downtown Harare will do nothing about because they can't. Everyone will kneel to Father Mugabe and the army will parade in pretty uniforms. A total make believe country. So different from what I left in 1980 when I was kicked out.
TexasBob, your hatred of Mugabe blinds you to the obvious fact - that he still commands enough support to continue being the key leader of the country. In case you do not know why, let me tell you the open secret - everyone knows the hypocrisy of the people opposing him, how they pretend there are only travel restrictions when there are real sanctions (read the Zimbabwe Democracy Act), how they pretend Mugabe is blocking the gobernment of national unity when it is their blue eyed boy doing that, etc, etc.
Wake up Zim Patriot! You ought t take side against murderer Mugabe ! You ought to prevent Mugabe from slaughtering Zimbos who oppose his political ideas. Why do you keep silent on the thousands of assassinations, rape and maiming committed by Mugabe's security forces?
Instead of claiming to be a patriot, you better change your perception of things and support the commoners who want to build a free, democratic and prosperous nation. Mugabe got 28 years to do that and yet he failed miserably!
You must be a bootlicker hiding under the cloak of a patriot! Who will you fool other than your own selfish ego?
Thank God Zimbabwe kicked you out! Zimbabwe does not need people like you with hidden agenda's. You do as if you really care about Black Zimbabwean's. There are many of us that are not even Zanu Pf fans but can see what is really happening - we are not stupid. You out of Zimbabwe now - STAY OUT YOU LOSER! and don't meddle in Zimbabwean issues because you don't know what you are talking about!
Kube, you are out of Zimbabwe too remember. Too scared to go back like a little scared child. Remember, people in New Zealand dont like your type either. Dont forget that.
Again you show show your ZANU PF ignorance , you fools think you areprime , but by your statements of hate , the world knows you are Shona satanyoko !
So you hide in a white mans land and spout your mouth kabangapenga , aah aah, a real brave impi like like your Shona chief Harare ! What a coward like the rest of ZANUPF
When you lose an entire cattle station, all the cattle and equipment and have to run for your life.....I know Zimbabwe quite well and I know what I am talking about. Too bad you are clueless. Comrade Bob is as bad as any african tinpot dictactor. Don't worry I will never come back....and by the way my Sister is a Kiwi and I have Moari ties in NZ. They actually like me.....
Zim patriot, if you regard Mugabe as " the key leader of the country," then how can you accuse Mr Tsvangirai (a non key leader in your opinion) of "holding the nation to ransom." All you lot are frustrated with is that you want Mr Tsvangirai to come and clean up Mugabe's kaka. Well let Mugabe clean up his own filth. He shamefully can't even do that.

IF ever there was anybody who doubted that MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai is a puppet in the mould of Moise Tshombe, those doubts should be dispelled by Tsvangirai's behaviour in the wake of indications from the US State Department that Washington was "withdrawing support" for the envisaged inclusive Government.

This opinion by the Herald clearly shows biasness against Morgan. Reasons being that those are opinions elevated by Zanu PF which is obviously denying the fact that Morgan commands the majority of supporters in Zimbabwe. It is us as Zimbabweans who wary of the warped agreement whose documents were altered by Chinamasa. It is us as Zimbabweans who are saying we do not trust Mugabe as he has already started making false allegations against opposition members. We do not trust Mugabe to swear Morgan under present circumstances, allowing this to occur would be a baptism of fire. Knowing Mugabe it’s a ploy to arrest Morgan and he will be denied bail and rot in prison. So the Herald keep on parroting your master’s voice and see if your evil ways will prevail.
A Happy New Year, 2009, my friend!!! Where is Morgan Tsvangirai at the moment? Is he within Great Zimbabwe and at the head of his followers or is he moving from one five star hotel to another? We want MT in Zimbabwe whether he joins the gvt of unity or not. He must be seen at the forefront of the fight facing his organisation, the MDC. Where is his judgement and national leadership? Undoubtedly, to many, his MDC is an or the alternative to ZANUpf. But MT must play his game within the correct arena, namely Great Zimbabwe, not elsewhere, eg Gaberone. I am sure his backers have plan B ready ...a plan that lists his possible replacements from his "cabinet". PLease, those in the know, could you tell me MT's end game while the MDC "republics" of Budiriro and Kuwadzana are facing the blunt of cholera.
Maybe he is looking for the MDC trainingkamps in Botswana but he can't find them because they are not there at all?
Sori zvenyu, you have chosen to stay behind. The Zimbabwe train is leaving without you guys. Chitima chaw kuenda.

I am not a supporter of ZANU PF, I have never been a supporter of ZANU PF, and I believe ZANU PF has failed to lead - the very fact that they have been crippled by sanctions to me is a sign of failure - even though they see it as an excuse for underperfoming...did they think they would tak the farms and the whites from the west would just smile? to me that shows poor planning and strategy on their part. BUT If ZANU PF went ahead and formed the next governement without that puppet Morgan Tsvangirai, I would back them 100%. He cant hold the nation to ransom, especially since we know he's not any better than anyone in governement right now- just an illusion that he's got "keys" to zimbabwes success through donor funds...what a joke.

Calling MT a western puppet is fearmongering and an unfounded distraction. ZANU/Mugabe has so badly mismanaged the economy no one will invest because the infrastructure is in tatters and they'd rather line their pockets than fix anything China recently funded the Gov't with $500,000. Was it out of the good of their hearts or the promise of mining consecions with slave labour? Who is really selling out ZimBobsway? Think About it!
noble, if Zimbabwe is in tatters and no one will invest then why is the western world focusing SO MUCH on Zimbabwe? There are worse things happening in the world today but nothing is said. SO WHY ZIMBABWE, WHY? You noble 1 is the 1 that needs to THINK ABOUT IT!
There may be laces that are making more news than Zimbabwe today, however not many and not for long. Count how many people withing Zimbabwe have either left the country, lost thier homes. hod all thier belongings burnt, been subjected to political violence, been abducted, beated, amaimed, or just plain and simple died, whether it be from disease (1500+ cholera-and counting) political murder, starvation, aids, etc. Add it all up and Zimbabwe is the worst performing country in this new millenium, and it is all down to one person and his hangers on. Are you part of the problem also?
because people who believe in humanity are against a dictator who brutally beat their own people to keep power. Simple really.
Because millions of Zimbabweans are having a miserable live due to the policies of an insane dictator. These people have nowhere to turn to because all their legal rights have taken from them. So at least what caring people all over the world can do, is to support them and help them to get rid of the regime that tortures them in so many ways. One third of the country fled somewhere else, half of the country depends on food aid from abroad. Money from other countries disappears in the pockets from Zanu-officials. People starving by the thousands. The world can not ignore these facts. So thats why.
Because talk is cheap. As Jallohlaw repeatedly demonstrates, you can simply have your computer string random sentences together and post it on the forums all day long, and it's no more effective than any other forum posting in changing anything in the real world.
If the west was focusing on Zimbabwe, there would be cluster bombs dropping on Harare. Plague, Famine, and Death may stalk the land, but the rider of the west is War, and it's the one Horseman of the Apocalypse that has yet to come to Zimbabwe.

VICE PRESIDENT Cde Joseph Msika is Acting President for the duration of President Mugabe's traditional annual month-long leave, part of which will be spent outside Zimbabwe.

Let me get this straight. Zim is in the worst state it has ever been in, in its history and mugabe goes on holidays! What an absolute disgrace. mugabe and regime do not care at all for the people of Zim, they care only for themselves. mugabe and regime are suppose to be the servants of there people like any elected person is the world over.
Wonder if mugabe has run away for good as he knows what is coming. As no leader would ever begin to think about leaving for a months holiday during a cholera epidemic and with the financial situation the way it is.
Does everyone else see the funny side to mugabe, regime and there follows telling the US to leave it alone and then go and use the US dollar as Zim's main currency.
Mugabe has run away from Zim, let the takeover of Zim by the good people of Zim, start today.
where is he- W ITH THE WIFE THAT SHOPS AND DROPS WHILE THE NATION STARVES!!!
Cde Charamba told our sister paper, The Sunday Mail: "This is more of a retreat than an actual leave." Funny indeed retreating from what? What has he been doing framing members of the opposition? Anyway is going to use Zillions or AMERICAN DOLLARS?
It may be touch and go if he comes back, I mean I'm sure he has a retirement plan cooked up with Kim Jong-il, and lets face it he cant get that monstrous cancerous prostate treated anywhere else now can he?
With a limp old goat with a monstrous prostate, it is certainly just 'touch and go" with the wife.
To Vice President Cde Joseph Mskika, Acting President of Zimbabwe
Dear Sir: I beg you to look into the incarceration of Janista Mukoko and the others who were taken with her. I am willing to take her place! Incarcerate me instead and let her get some medical attention. Please!
I have been following events in Zimbabwe from all the way over here, on the other side of the globe, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Now, we have a new president who has an African father. Now is the time for you to ask with wisdom and mercy.
Again, I offer myself in Janista Mukoko's place. I will even raise the funds for my own transportation there. With all my heart, I implore you to hear my request and humbly beg for your mercy while you are in a position to act!
Sincerely, Melissa Sue Zeck Minneapolis, MN melissazeck@yahoo.com
I need to correct the spelling of Ms. Mukoko's name in my original comment. Her name is Jestina Mukoko (not Janista).
