Excellent article!!! David Steinberg’s article shows balance that is required to solve the problem in Zimbabwe. He recognizes that Mugabe will not leave power, unless offered immunity. This also applies to the Military people. Another important point made is the recognition that Parliament should lead the way for change. Most members of Parliament were dually elected and as such can lead the nation in drafting a new constitution. In a way, I’m also glad that he is not saying Tsvangirai should be President. Surprisingly enough some people are still very suspicious of Tsvangirai. David also includes the disgraced SADC leaders to play a role. Quiet frankly their role now should be to pursued Mugabe to step down. The proposals put forth also shows no connection to the ever suspicions of a “Western” conspiracy or even a “Rhodesian” conspiracy. I would also add that the African countries could start now to refuse to meet Mugabe or allow him in their countries. The ICG should pressurize every African country that allows Mugabe to come in. National Gov’t is dead, SADC need to swallow it’s pride and accept the failure. I have not been a big fan of ICG, but such a neutral article deserves consideration!
