This is great news! and should give some us hope that all is not lost, that despite successive past administrations apparent determined efforts to stiffle research and meaningful contribution by brilliant and gifted Nigerians that Dr. Nelson is able to achieve this breakthrough.Ofcourse there are many more Dr. Nelsons out there but is anyone seeking to find them? our leaders would prefer to sponsor researches into the most evil ways to underdevelop the country. I challenge our political leaders to research and find a cure for rigging elections, looting public funds and backward movements. Congratulations Dr. Nelson, light will always shine through darkness no matter how long it takes.
I am a USA based Health care professional and was happy to read about something good coming out of our country. I feel sad that other professionals rather than ask positive questions about the potency or effect of the said new drug are attacking and doubting Dr. Nelson. They should rather challenge him to open testing and encourage him rather than their approach. If anybody is doubting that God has a project with Nigeria wait for the more miracles yet to happen because we have turned to be a prayerful nation. May God protect this Doctor and give the leaders the wisdom to support him. I hope that they are not doubting because it is not from the west or far east. Break throughs could come from any part of the world and this is ours to keep and enjoy. To God be the glory.

This is a new dawn and a major break through in this dreaded disease that has terrorized virtually every family of the world. Research is key to development of technology and medical break through as shown in the case of Dr. Louis Obyo Nelson. Congratulations are in order for Dr. Nelson and the Nigeria government for believing in him.
It is against background that I criticized the Nigerian government for discarding the Biafran R&D when the war ended. It was a squandered opportunity based on narrow mindedness of leaders like Obasanjo and his group. We need more good news not stealing and stashing away of our money
NATURAL CURE OF DIABETES (via Stevia) In the 1980s Author [ Of The Book The Miracle Of Stevia ] James A. May discovered the existence of a plant called Stevia. This plant was discovered by Mr. May in the country of Paraguay , South America.
THE MIRACLE OF STEVIA ' BY JAMES A. MAY / wisdomherbs.com [Stevia ] Revelations 18:23 Said that the Nations were deceived by the SORCERIES of the WHORE Of Babylon. The Root Meaning Of The Word SORCERY = PHARMACY Nkosi Sikelelei God Bless Africa
"The drug, which was said to have been administered on many diabetic victims, has been found to be very safe and highly effective. It was also said to have corrected erective dysfunctions noticed in those victims."
No doubt it also cured AIDS, cholera, malaria, tremors, headaches, stomachaches, and that greatest scourge of humanity, sobriety.
Doctor Nostrum's, err, Nelson's 180 proof snake oil! Buy it by the gallon!
Seriously, first the "scientist" who claimed she could squeeze gasoline out of rocks, and now this. Do Africans really go searching for swindlers so they can bury them under mountains of gold and diamonds?
ragtimer or ragtag as the case might be, If according to reports he was given a patent by the relevant authorities in the US why do you still think it,s a lie? oh, maybe because it,s an African that achieved the feat and that makes you bitter,go on Mr bitter. It,s on record that medicine started from Africa and that fact is corroborated by the large numbers of African medical practitioners the world over,if you think they are not good enough, send them packing and back to Africa where they are highly needed. Our only pain in Africa is having Govt that pays no attention to money for research, the brains to achieve are there.
I might think it's a lie because I put more trust in the US Patent Office's reports (which say there has been no such medicine patented) than in those from a Nigerian newspaper, and especially more than those from the good Doctor Nelson himself.
There may or may not be sufficient brainpower in Africa to invent amazing things, but we'll never know, because any true African scientific research is drowned out by all the snake oil selling swindlers (if not hunted down and killed by them).
I am a US citizen. I just went to the US Patent Office web site and using its quick check option, gave the year of the presumed patent, and the word" Midicaments" from its title, and the presumed patent number, and came up with the following results. Anybody with computer access to the internet can do the same.
United States Patent 6,531,461 Nelson March 11, 2003
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Medicament for the treatment of diabetes
Abstract A series of compounds of general structure I and metal salts thereof. These compounds are useful in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and associated conditions when administered in an effective non-toxic dose in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable composition resulting in cell regeneration. ##STR1## wherein for example, R=H, R.sub.1 =H, R.sub.2 =Me, R.sub.3 =Me and R.sub.4 = ##STR2##
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Inventors: Nelson; Louis Obyo Obyo (Asokoro Abuja, NG) Appl. No.: 09/873,560 Filed: June 4, 2001
ragtimer Information available at the US Patent Office website (www.uspto.gov) shows that a patent (No.6,531,461) was actually granted to Nelson for "Medicament for the treatment of diabetes" in March 2003. Furthermore, in the application for patent Nelson claimed that the drug has been tried in both animals and human beigns and found to lower blood sugar and regenerate the cells that produced insulin. It may be argued that the number of patients used in the trial was small (23 patients and 5 control subjects)but that is a different matter.
Ragtimer or whatever your name is, I'm a U.S BASED Medical doctor, it's true that he has Invented the Cure, go here and read the last Sentence, http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p= 1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6,531,461.PN.&OS=PN/6,5 31,461&RS=PN/6,531,461
It says all Volunteers have recovered from the Disease,
Now, I say wise up and lets follow it the African way if that's how we'll face -off all of the world's diseases, Nigeria is Highly underfunded as we all know, I believe if they were funded properly we'd probably have a cure for HIV and AIDS by now,
Thumbs up Mr Nelson.Long Live Nigeria
Thank God for the new discovery,am very happy because truely in every home you will see atleast a diabetic patient(I am not exempted). So ragtimer or ragmataz,we dnt care about your opinion but we all care about were Africa is going(to the future).
This is a truely amazing discovery. I am not surprised because there is a lot of potential in the Nigeria herbs but minimal clinically oriented pharmaceutical research. From what I gather, this is a cure and not just a treatment. The drug is said to generate B- cell(the cells that produce insulin) within six months.I hope the developed world will be quick to judge this discovery by its merits and realize that the cure for diabetes may indeed have out of Nigeria.
This is ridiculous. I could a right thinking literate person in the 21st cenrury belief this scam!! This is one of the main reasons this country is not developing. We trust emotions more than logic. This is absurd.
this is for all you African haters out there. yeah Africa may be impoverished in a manner but we ain't fools you know. we do/invent something and the whole world is against it like we were made to be behind the West.l those days are over brother, if you doubt ask the president of the states(if i may say so) get real people and you will find out that in the very long run Africa has no place to go to except for the top. and by the way the drug works if not the U.S. of A wouldn't give it a patent right. Ha ha. God bless Africa.
When I see progress of Africa like this, it makes me so proud to be an African..yes we can !!!
I am diabets petiant. How i can get the mediciene. Ffom Addis Ababa Ethiopia

I find this hard to believe. I am an American health care professional. There is no Diabetic cure here that we know about.
Diet, medications (oral and Insulin) and tracking blood sugars is what is controlling this disease.
I would love for there to be a cure. Perhaps in the future. If this person is truly discovering better treatment/cure options for for Diabetes, wonderful!!! It will be all over the worldwide media and known to everyone worldwide. I came across this news story quite by accident. This is the first I have heard of this. Be careful!!!!
No need to argue over this. Why is the Nigerian Government not playing this on the world stage to enable tests and to confirm if it is a cure or not. There are millions of sufferers looking for this shouldn't anyone anywhere in the the world be interested no matter where it comes from?.
You are negative, you just heard about it, what you mean to say is you do not believe it, not that you find it hard to believe. Stating you are an American Health Care Professional and have not heard about it is a pretty dumb statement. I am an American Citizen,I have been to every state in the USA, I have never heard of you, so what?
The patent is real The law firm who wrote it is real GDPAU is real The clinicals are real
All you have written is what every school child infected knows already, but like you say perhaps in the future...but certainly not now....what are you afraid of.
Congratulations to Obyuo, as your name go down in history. It is high time we begin to take responsibility for our selves instead of waiting for the caucacians to do it for us, one thing we have to realize is that the cure for any desease is usually around the same environment where the disease is present. Why do you think malaria still kills in Africa? Answer: Because there is no existence of malaria in the western world. Our leaders need to invest in research to combat a lot of these diseases that claim millions of lives everyday just like we have recently seen in Zimbabwe where people are dying because of lack of clean water.
This is great news. I hope the drug arrives on the market soon along with cures for AIDS and sickle cell.
