Diamond exports plunged by close to 90 percent in the four months between August and November 2008 as the global recession hit demand for luxury goods, figures availed by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) reveal.

Before the ink has dried on the budget proposals made two weeks ago, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Baledzi Gaolathe yesterday announced in Parliament that he is working towards trimming down the 2009 budget that stands at P38 billion.

The turmoil in the diamond industry caused by collapsing demand and prices has left the future of one of DTC Sightholders DDA of Botswana, hanging in the balance.

Diamonds are forever; very true Botswana’s economy will shine again.
My contribution against Botswana’s naïve megaphone political interferences with its fellow regional states who, in effect, must be allies is disastrous to its cordial economic progression.
Botswana has today a sound balance sheet that needs regional investments to diversify on dividends. Do we hear of Botswana business around or it’s only opinioned western propaganda?
Batswana, with all my love, start to think business with the region!
