What could have amounted to an international embarrassment for Nigeria in New York last Friday night was averted when Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Paul Dike, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Abdulrahman Dambazau, some officials in the delegation of the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Salamatu Suleiman, and other generals were trapped in the elevator at the Nigeria House.

If the government does not work at home base, how would anyone with brain think it can work abroad. One would hope that the Government take adequate steps to fix the elevator because if this could happen again and someone is injured or dead being him a foreigner or not, the Nigerian Government could face a huge lawsuit it will not be able to recover from plus bad publicity that goes with it.Remember the rule of law here is so strong that there maybe no avenue to bribe prosecutors as it is a common practice in NIgeria.Hopefully, those government office who were trapped will now see the need for us to put our house[s]in order. One is happy that the incident had a good ending. we may not be lucky next time.It may be the Executive branch to be trapped next who knows. We need to take care of our business and stop given excuses as to why this and that are not been done.Ending [the]massive bribery and corruption in our Government will be a step worthwhile.Thank you. off course, anything synonymous with Nigeria spells disaster.this describes the state of our nation.I hope when they were in the lift contemplating their fate, part of their thoughts was not to cheat or embezell the nations fundever again and to return all ill-gotten money to charity.
The lead of this story " Nigeria: Generals Trapped in New York Lift" is captivating but misleading! it appears as if it were done to Nigerians by a New York managed lift. 'Nigeria's death-trap in New york' would have been more befitting. well i am happy that it happened to those people mentioned above, not only because they have the largest-bag-loads-of-corruption but also they are one of the many who qualified for such shameful scenarios. i live in South Africa and i have been to places in the world, but i have never seen any country in the world where leaders are not concerned about the will and interests of those from whom they garnished their support and are not willing to show some respect. it is particularly disturbing to see that Nigeria, with all the resources that has naturally placed it above its counterparts cannot even maintain a lift that every single university in south Africa has been able to do. supermaktets, hypermarkets, let alone Shopping malls have been consistent in managing. for the sake of national identity, respect and image at home and abroad, may God help Nigerian leaders and the ones to take over to be able to ignore corruption and gluttony and administer transparently!
This is a natural reflection of what obtains at home. ''Ile ni a tii ko eso rode'' [Charity begins at home]
It is not that the government would not have made budgetary provisions for such maintenance, but such would have found their ways into private pockets and accounts, and those to supervise such expenditures would have been one of the direct beneficiaries of such crime.
This is why we don't have electricity in Nigeria; our roads are the world's most dangerous; our health systems are moribund; our government most insensitive; our markets are dumping grounds for fake products from all over the world.....and the life of an average Nigerian at this age is similar to those in 14th century.
God would always have His way of dealing with you people in position of leadership for all hardship invoked on us.
