The question of why Barack Obama has chosen Ghana rather than Kenya, his father's homeland, or Nigeria, Africa's giant, for his first trip to Africa as President of the United States, is exercising newspapers from Nairobi to New York.
[ See Article ]
so what if Obama visits Ghana instead of Nigeria? even if Jesus reappears in Ghana it is still an African country where suffering is eternal and inate
What's the beef of our nigerian brothers, Ghana did not beg prez Obama to visit. he did so on his own conviction. After all he is a right thinking prez.
the issue about Africom came up during Prez. Bush visit's to Ghana in 2008. The government of Ghana stated clearly that it will not allow an American base to be established on its soil. this was said in the presence of Pres.
when it comes to oil, of course Ghana will trade its oil with the highest bidder just like any oil producing country. if America is interested in Ghana's oil we will sell to them if the offer is better.
I can understand the frustration of my Nigerian brothers. Historicaly, Nigeria has been Ghana's closest family bcos we have ties culturally, common colonial heritage as well as economic linkages. we Ghana feels Nigeria closer to us than our three immediate neighbors, Cote d'voire, Togo and Burkina. There whatever glory Ghana recieves is shared with Nigeria.
Ghana is receiving Prez Obama mainly bcos of her democratic credentials. In the last election, the opposition won the election by just 0.05 percent. in most African countries, the imcumbent would have manipulated it for their advantage.
We Ghanaians deserve this honour and such no one should downplay on its significance. but we share this with all Africa. Remember of first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah said after Ghana became the first sub saharan African country to win independence that ' the independence of Ghana is meaningless without the total liberation of the whole Africa'. we in Ghana don't think of ourselves alone...
I totally agree Obama should not visit Nigeria until we buckle up and stop all the curroption. However, I think he should also have visited Botswana, that is one African country that has proved themselves and I have hardly heard anything negative about. GOD BLESS BOTSWANA...
This news is really interesting.......... thanx john real estate search
Obama's visit to Ghana is an amazing news and also the stepping stone for the Ghanaian Economy...Take it or leave it,Obama is highly welcome to the country that brought civilization to West Africa.....
I'm proud to be an African and also A GHANAIAN
GOD BLESS MY COUNTRY,GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS GHAHA
The choice of Ghana by President Obama is a reward for the people to choose democracy over dictatorship and violence. It is a victory for all those who made Ghana's democratic process an enviable successs compared with what has been witnessed in other parts of te continent. Ghana is an emerging democracy and a visit by President Obama will give the people a reason to nurture, protect and defend it.
I dont understand how it can be a reward if obama visits Ghana, he will come and go and the people and their situations will remain the same. People talk like he will come with millions of dollars and start distributing to ghanaians, obama is on a tour for mending American image abroad, its all about America and people from Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt and Ghana should know that.its all about American interests
I agree with you guys. Ghana is a striving democracy and she is a beacon of political success in West Africa. Senegal and Mali are also doing pretty well in the political arena in West Africa. It is however a shame on the Nigerian leaders who are only bent on satisfying their own pockets rather than their own people.
President Obama visits Egypt on June 4th. He visits Ghana on July 10th. So his first trip to Africa as president will be to Egypt. In case you did not know, Egypt is still in Africa.
Akena, this seems to be a constant area of confusion. When people talk of European, African, and etc, sometimes they are referring to race, region/nationality, or both. If you are completing a job application, the race/ethnicity section where it says African, means race not nationality or region.
When Pres Obama laid out his Africa visit and referred to an "African" country, this is in contrast to an "Arab" country i.e. Egypt. Yes, Egypt is in Africa. But it has long been anything but an African, i.e. Black, country due to migration and etc.
And Pres Obama is going to Egypt to speak to the Arab world. I'm sure there are plenty of us black people in Egypt. However, life in Egypt is tense for black people as though it was the 1960s form what I've heard. We are subjugated throughout Europe, Asia, and part of Northern Africa.
Hopefully Pres Obama's election and international efforts will bring change.
Well, the first sub-saharah vist, as the news stations specificed, was to Ghana...that is the difference. However, I do agree that folks need to remember that Egypt is in Africa and that there really isnt any place called the "Middle East."
If I was Obama I will snub Nigeria in my itinery to Africa. I am amused to see Obasanjo junketing arround the world as a peace maker. I can not understand why he is allowed to roam freely after running Nigeria down in reward to getting him off Abacha's cluthes.
The snub will inform Nigeria that Ghana has taken over the mantle of leadership in Africa in keeping with Nkuruma's African dream . Nigeria is a country under seige by retired "Generals" with leading edge in global corruption . This visit is a reward for desciplined leadership, good governance and moving democratic ideals forward in the region .
Read Nigerian news and laugh yourself off about stories of ruthless looting of public tresury by senators, ministers , contractors foreign nationals and ofcourse the Haliburton of the Irag fame .
Mr Asolo, and other guys, I strongly agree with on why Obama's decision not stop over in Nigeria should not surprise anyone. Among many reasons the simplest one is: The senior officials don't want Obama to get stock in Nigeria as did the Nigerian offical delegates to UN Peace Strategy Submit got stock in the so-called Nigerian Diplomatic Mission House in Washington, DC., recently. Besides or moreover, Nigerias has not offered an opportunity to promote important values of interest of any kind, so be it.
Obama's choice to visit Ghana and not Nigeria has nothing to do with Nigeria or our democracy, and all to do with US interests. GWBush recently visited Ghana just after oil was discovered in Ghana, so it is not surprising Obama does too to lock down this new found oil. Secondly and more importantly, Yaradua recently thumped his finger in the Us presidents nose, rejecting his plea to allow US set up AFRICOM base in Nigeria. This really hurt the US in their race against China and imperialistic quest for global rule. Ghana on the other hand has been more positive toward accepting AFRICOm and already has US soldiers, so just like Obama already visited two Monarchies- Kuwait and Jordan that do have US military bases, it is only expected that he visits Ghana, a new strategic US puppet. I think an article on NewsRescue expressed it perfectly.
So let's thank Yaradua for standing up along side with most strong African Nations in rejecting this new colonization of Africa.
Obviously, NewRescue never read the media reports of Bush's visit to Ghana last year. The Ghanaian leader told Pres. Bush point blank that Ghana would never host a US base. The new Ghanaian president den in opposition voiced a strong and deadly opposition to any thoughts of the US base in Ghana. Check your facts. Obama's visit is just in respect and recognition of our efforts collectively as a Ghanaian people. Respect that.
Obama and his visit or non visit should not disturb Nigerians. We should just keep fighting to push our democracy to greater heights. Obama's visit is clearly based on America's oil interest. Its not suprising because they always have two sets of policy- one that is overtly displayed and the other covertly implemented. Looking at the indices and political history, Ghana has always been free of the complexities that plague Nigeria. For example the tribal diversity in Nigeria and our colonial development makes us already different from Ghana. So why the undue comparison??? Please,Yar'Adua, maintain your focus and do what is right.
What a lesson for Nigeria. For Obama to have chosen to visit Ghana leaving Nigeria out inspite of all that Her nationals did during the electioneering campaign calls for concern and rethink on the part of Nigerians who are used doing a lot to achieve a little or nothing. The loss of lives and properties in Liberia is also fresh in our memories. It is high time Nigeria learnt to be focused and specified clearly her goals and objectives before any action.
I think the whole discussion of whether President Obama visits Nigeria, Ghana or Kenya first is just a reflection of the inferiority complex of the African.
Former President Clinton and Bush visited Africa, what changed? My friend, the United States only care about her interest and not democracy or good governance. Try overthrowing the Saudi, Jordanian or the Kuwaiti kings and see what happens. Did the above kings get there as democrats? China which has the worst human right records still enjoys the most preferential trading nation status with the United States. PLEASE WAKE UP
Ehiaghe could,nt have said it better, self interest is what drives the US,s foreign policy.the earlier we adjust to that the better.wake up Africans. They (US) care little or not at all about what form of Govt is on the ground so long as their selfish and greedy interests are not trampled upon.
I am a black man writing from New York City in the United States. First, peace top my African brothers and sisters. Let me clarify a few things: First, the election of President Obama is not meant to suggest that black people in the United States have arrived. Like our African brothers and sisters, we are still a very divided and dependant people.
American leadership, no mater who it is, will travel to certain countries in Africa looking to enhance America's image and, of course, to shore up American interests.
I do believe, however, that President Obama is trying to put a new face on American arrogance and hegemony of the past and it trying to strike a different tone and diplomatic chord in the world.
African leadership, across the board, has to move to a level where they serve their people and not be awestruck with American or Chinese of European leaders. The greed and lack of democracy among African leaders, coupled with tribalism, has not served the peoples of Africa well at all.
As a black man in America, I am looking forward to change across Africa and salute its peoples.
I totally agree, Independnce and positive outlook in life is the key for new Africa. The psychology of mind has been played since the dawn of time by Westerns and Europians. The presence of Chinese is just there to create the competition. Africans have to learn how to negotiate better because you are sitting on the ocean of wealth and it's still part of the global need. You can not isolate yourself from the rest of the world any more, I think with better business approach you can achieve fair deal. We keep wasting so much energy fighting each other and talking about others. for Africa to function better, it's leaders need to understand the political and economic nature of the world. we are very emotional people, in sports and entertainment it works great, but when it comes to making deals we fall apart. We seems to trust and close the deals without scrutiny and the others take advantage of Africa's good nature.Bear in mind all political functions are created, to keep people divided. South Africa is greater example right now. Black turned killing each other for others to survive. Native south Africans deserve the priviledges the visitors are getting. I wouldn't worry so much about Obamas visit to Ghana, it's all about the business, and I think the brother is working so hard. You should give him the support he needs and he may visit some other countries tomorrow, and if not, who cares?
The fact is - it is true he should have gone "home " first i.e to Kenya.. I feel that he may still be feeling the abondement of his father and "his people "africa " on the whole. As it is clear that he [Obama]is against absent fathers and this is no doubt due to his own bringing and the absence of his own dad
Ghana on the other hand has been more positive toward accepting AFRICOm and already has US soldiers, so just like Obama already visited two Monarchies- Kuwait and Jordan that do have US military bases, it is only expected that he visits Ghana, a new strategic US puppet. I think this article expresses this perfectly- http://www.newsrescue.com/2009/05/obama-to-visit-ghana-all-about-africom/
So let's thank Yaradua for standing up along side with most strong African Nations in rejecting this new colonization of Africa.
I hope that you don't really believe that this is really about Africom. I hope that it would be to show that the US has respect for the African continent. I hope that Africom does not land on the African continent due to the problems that it may cause. I am glad to see an American President who is willing to visit an African country that believes in Democracy, freedom of speech and many other freedoms that are not shared by everyone on the continent.
News rescue, well said. The Americans are searching for willing African puppets and Ghana is ready to take that role. In as much as we agree that Nigeria,s recourse to executive anarchy and lack of respect for democratic institutions has a role to play, the inability of the imperialists to get Nigeria,s backing for a new dismemberment and rape of Africa,s resources is one reason the US is sidestepping Nigeria and tilting towards a government that,s willing to do her bidding, but Ghana should not forget that they don,t have the veto to go ahead and sidestep the overall policy decisions of other African governments who have collectively rejected the imposition of a foreign and likely criminal force(Africom) on Africa. Nigeria is hurt, but won,t loose sleep with this decision of the imperialists of which an African son is now head.Logically, if the world doe,s not see Nigeria as strategic and important country, thankfully, the majority of African countries recognises that fact as evidenced by E.C.O.M.O.G and west Africa,s collective efforts to keep the peace in this part of Africa and Nigeria is paramount to the efforts financially, politically, economically e.t.c.No A.F.R.I.C.O.M on our soil,Africans unequivocally reject it, Obama would do well to heed the wishes of the African people.

- Life Is a Game. Have Fun. [ Luke 18:17 / Isaiah 11:6 ]
I would be worried if jesus came and shunned kenya. When ever american presidents go everything comes to a halt from airwaves to road communication. I dont need a visitor who will destort my daily routine.
No one has anything good to say about Nigeria home and abroad. Deservingly so. The country is the verge of collapse, which dont pray for, therefore Nigeria do not a visit from any credible world leader at this time.
In my last comment, i meant to say Nigeria do not deserve any visit from a world leader like Pres. Obama or any credible leader for that matter as Yar'adua has no legitimacy.
Some Africans are making too big a deal over Obama's trip to Ghana. After all, he's just another head of state, who leads a nation that has ALWAYS been racist to African people, inside and outside of America!
Let him go where he will. The President of Kenya should reject the dictation from an anti-African country, especially when the American dictation and threat of sanctions are carried by lost Africans.
We only desire that Ghanaians aren't foolish enough to let a racist America establish its military in Africa; because it will only bring destruction to Africans in the end.
One round of European military colonization, destruction and plunder of Ghanaian peoples is more than enough.
Obame like any other man has made the best decision. I as a Nigerian welcomed the idea of visiting Ghana instead of NIGERIA. Take a good look at it:
Obama arrival at the Murtala Muhamed Airport and.... 1. Electricity failure 2. His luggages are stolen 3. To meet up with corrupt politicians 4. Election Malpractices and lootings....
I could write more, we all know it and should stop decieving ourselves as BIG BROTHER OF AFRICA.
Nigeria should give birth to a system because there is no system in PLACE
It should not be a surprise that Obama decided to visit Ghana because he is going there on American's interest and not on personal ground. No matter the reasons we might think of, but we should all remember that there are new oil discoveries in Ghana that requires American's attentions for stealing unlike Nigerian oil that is already in their possesion. Also, even though I respect the democracy in Ghana, but we should note that their leaders are yet to start spending oil money and the foreign powers that are looking for oil at all cost are just starting to intrude into their affairs.I hope these will not turn otherwise when the influences of oil money will start, which can intoxicate their leaders just as the case in Nigeria.
ok, obama went to ghana insted of NIGERIA, SOOOOOOO what, we should expect it, the leadership in nigeria is below poor, the masses are hungry for a change, even if the so called elite do not want to accept it. What goes up............................................................. a word is enough for the wise, change will come and it may not be pleasant.
divide rule and conquire will always be the slogan for those that seek to downpress Afrikans..looking at teh comments we are already looking down on each other..Obama is not God his fulfilling American procedures..keep your friends close and enemies closer dont forget how valuable Ghana is in Affrica....
the reson why ghana was chosen is a divene one becuase from all indication even obama as a person may or may nt uderstandstand UNTIL HE THE LAND GOLD COAST(SIKAMAN) and he will be forfilling a DIVINE COURSE of which to mension just a few,DR MATTIN LUTTER KING,ABRAHAM LINCLON,could'nt or faild to do but GOD,ELOHIM,the all knowing has for mankind would be made manisfest. In this respect his arrival on the soil of ghana could not be left out becouse of what the first perisdent of the soil said 50 years ago is being forfilled,"the independence of AFRICA is meanigless until the total unification of the africans" is close to the seed not a seed but a DIVINE SPRITUAL SEED SOWN BETWEEN MARTIN LUTTER KING AND NKUMAH for that matter "THE DIVINE SPIRITUAL LINK BETWEEN GHANA AND U.S.A is worth kwnoing . 1.FOR GOD TO DO ANYTHING ON EARTH,HE NEEDS MANKIND,WHOM HE CREATED IN HIS OWN IMAGE,AS A WAY OR GATEWAY. 2.MAN AFTER FAILING GOD,THROUGH ADAM AND EVE,CHOOSE TO USE JOSEPH AND THE AGENDA FAILED,DANIEL,JOHN THE BAPTIST,FAILED BECUASE ALL THIS WAS INTERRUPTED. 3AGAIN THIS TWO GREAT MEN MATTIN LUTTER KING AND NKRUMAH,THE BESINESS OG GOD WAS INTEERUPTED,THEN 4.GOD TOLD A PROPHET IN GHANA SINCE THE YEAR 2000,TALKED ABOUT THE THRONE OF THE USA BEING OCCUPPIED BY DARK SKINED,2004 PROPHESED THAT OBAMA WILL SOON TAKE SEAT OF THE WHITE HOUSE. 5.GOD TOLD HIM TO GO USA,TO CARRY A DIVINE ASSIGNMENT THROUGHT ALL THE STATES OF US JUST MAKE OBAMA SAVE FOR THE AGEDA OF GO TO BE FORFILLED,HE DID THAT FROM 28 APRIL 2008-12 JULY 2008. 6.GOD SAID MAKE A VIGEL TO SPIRITUALLY PUT OBAMA ON THE,HE OBEYED AS A SON, AND DID IT ON 31/OCT/08. 7.GOD SAID I'M LEFT ONE MORE THING TO DO,OBAMA'S FOUNDATION,GO TO KENYA,KEGELO,SOUGHT THIS OUT FOR ME,THE PHOPHET DID. This are just few to tell the whole world that its enough to ask or better put, good to ask,WHY OBAMA CHOSE GHANA. May be prove why,OBAMA 1.LOOK AT THE WAY HE TALKS,HIS ADIVICE,CHOICES ARE CLEAR EVIDENCE OF HIS ENTHRONMENT. 2.HIS DISIRES AND CRY TO BRING PEACE TO ALL THE CONTINENT OF THE WORLD WORTH KNOWINING. reason is GHANA is the GATEWAY TO AFRICA ALSO,why ghana and not kenya, nigera, southafrica the reason is GHANA is the GATEWAY TO AFRICA.
President Obama chosen ghana for his first trip becouse ghana is the peaceful cauntry in west africa, when former president of united states visiting africa, his first trip is ghana, why some people don't understand. is now time for other country to chose peace and freedom, they will see great people like obama in their country. Obama you are highly well comes to ghana and may God bless you. SALAM ALAIK
As a man sow so shall he reap. Ghana deserves to be the 1st african country to be visited by the 1st black amrican president. Countries such us Burundi Kenya and Zimbabwe as well should draw an example from Ghana. tyranny in africa is something we must fight taking example from Ghana. Kenya should know that in african tradition A CHILD IS NOT FOR HIS FATHER ALONE. HE ALSO BELONGS TO HIS UNCLES MOTHER AUNTS RELATIVES NEIGHBOUR AND WHOLE COMMUNITY. WE SHALL BE JUDJED BY WHAT WE DO BUT NOT THE NATURE OF OUR BLOOD
Amidst all the angst, that Obama's African choice is provoking - one has to look deeper. What or who is the force behind Ghana's democratic and economic stability and more to the point, Ghana's President Atta Mills? The answer is quite simple. Prophet T.B. Joshua. No nation can be greater or more stable than its leader and behind every leader is a mentor.
T.B Joshua, internationally renowned Nigerian prophet, has been a mentor to Atta Mills for the past 10 years, ever since he was the Vice- President of Ghana. Apart from seeking spiritual guidance in The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations, Atta Mills has regularly visited TB Joshua and received advice on how to maintain a balance between his responsibility to God and his responsibility to man.
TB Joshua even prophesied Atta Mill's surprising victory against the opposition in January 2009. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzR1poV0r04
Renowned internationally for miracles, signs and wonders that weekly occur in his ministry and commended for his impressive humanitarian projects, TB Joshua was recently awarded the OFR, (Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic) by President Yar’Adua.
Atta Mills is not the only President that has visited the man of God, nor is he to be the last but he has truly seen the value of Prophet TB Joshua, a man who is committed to a just society and doing what is good to change the bad he sees, a man who knows God’s opinion of himself and others. And now, Ghana is enjoying the fruits. President Obama, welcome to Ghana! http://thepmnews.com/2009/01/12/tb-joshua-predicted-my-victory-%E2%80%94gha na%E2%80%99s-leader
As an African-American, I support the President's choice as Ghana is the most progressive AFrican nation and the most cooperative with African-Americans. Ghana is far more sensitive to African-Americans than Nigeria. I hope that this serves as futher impetus to strengthen the ties between Ghana and African-Americans!
enough should be enough for now; I am seek of good meaninmg people going on about US presidents choice of his first African visit and its sole outcome of using it as a platform to further condemn our leaders as criminals and corrupt. obama has toed the line of other presidents before him in working on the collective psychology of our people in distrusting our leaders and continous extention of the gap between the people and the leadership. i think this marks a dangerous start.leadership especially in africa with all its complexities is not plain sailing, so to judge our leaders (after 60 years of independence in some cases) with similar standard as the emperialist nations whose systems of government has endured 100s of years, is absurd. africans should see the conditioning going on in the global media and should resist it. when we continue to join in the filt of criminalising our leaders at any turn then, we not only lose interest and hope in our political evolution but will continue in this circle of self-harm. If only he had spoken of hope we can believe-in rather than blame the continental leadership.
Obama can choose whatever country he would like to visit in black Africa, but i strongly believe that the visit of the American president to Ghana is crystal clear in that the country seem to have distinguish in promoting democracy though i think Oil politics cannot be ruled out, as for Nigeria i think this a big challenge and our leader are better sit up than complain, for 49 years the country still grope in dark, there is need to strengthen democratic governance and eliminate official corruption.
Ghanaian Chronicle (Accra)

For the third time in recent years, an American President is visiting Ghana. President Barrack Obama is expected in Accra on July 10th this year, and return the following day. Though he is just going to spend a night with us, The Chronicle thinks the visit is significant in many ways and Ghanaians reserve every right to rejoice over it.

Discerning Nigerians and indeed her friends are all agreed that by dint of her endowments Nigeria should be one of the foremost countries in Africa and the world. For many years, it has worked to earn this pre-eminence and the respectability that comes with it.

The world see Umaru Yar'Adua as a local TRIBAL POLITICIAN with almost no experience of WORLD POLITICS as opposed to the recognized PATRIOTIC OBASANJO who brought Nigeria into the lime light but was ironically almost humiliated by Nigerians. Obasanjo is regarded as one of the wise men of Africa outside Nigeria.
Even though Obama used to be a Ganja smoker, he is not to be seen hobnobbing with these guys who call themselves leaders in this our own Nigeria. So, he can not come here anytime soon in the name of oficial visit.
The order of the OBamanic service is so cellestial that it can not be afforded the opportunity of direct contact with such an indolent and never sincere leader as Yaradua.
Governance in Nigeria rode gleefully into the abyss of self destruction when Babangida allowed the devil to erect the headquarter of currupton in Nigeria. the same further sank into reprobacy during the day of OBJ's so called democratic administration.
But today there is a government in place with ears but cannot hear, with eyes but cannot see, with hands but can hardly fashion anything, with a mind viod of determination.
nigeria is showing the peculiarity of a Nation. it is currently affording the whole world an insight into the human behaviour during those far flung evolutuionary days of pre adamic existence.
Nigeria's dimming internatilnal stature! Hmmn. We will never be there untill all that culminated to the civil war is eradicated. And we must start by being fair to ourselves. We must jetisson all there quota system, federal character, practice true federalism, shun corruption, develop our infrastructure then and then, democracy will fit in without much ado. Anything other than this, we're just moving knowhere and not only Ghana will leave us behind but Burundi also and then we'll finally cap it with the inevitable dismemberment of the country. Cheers.

In his piece entitled “ White Collar War Crimes, Black African Fall Guys,”
investigative journalist Keith Snow writes:
First note that the ICC can now be viewed as a tool of hegemonic U.S. foreign policy,
where the weapons deployed by the U.S. and its allies include the accusations of, and
indictments for, human rights violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
To understand this, we can ask WHY NO WHITE MAN HAS YET BEEN CHARGED
with these or other offenses at the ICC (International Criminal Court) which now holds
five black African warlords and seeks to incarcerate and bring to trial another black man,
also an Arab, Omar Bashir.
Why hasn’t George W. Bush been indicted ? Or what about Donald Rumsfeld ?
Dick Cheney? Henry Kissinger? Ehud Olmert? Tony Blair?
The sad fact is that the International Criminal Court has become terribly
politicized, as has the entire international justice apparatus.
The ICC has issued indictments, for the first time in history, against a sitting head of
state. Meanwhile, according to Snow, an Israeli weapons dealer, also a reputed Mossad
operative, is revealed to be shipping weapons into Sudan with Pentagon support.
And Belgium changed its law rather than prosecute Ariel Sharon for war crimes.
The double standard cries out to us.
One country in the West, however, increasingly stands out as a place where
justice can be found?and that is Spain. With its landmark indictment of
Pinochet and its current consideration of Israeli war crimes in Lebanon and
U.S. torture in Guantanamo, we increasingly look to the Spanish Courts with
hope. It was the Spanish courts that returned indictments against Rwandan
soldiers for genocide even as the world coddles U.S. proxy Rwanda and its
leader, Paul Kagame.

Sitting here reading these comments from the people of Africa. It is quiet amusing! I am an American, who has visited Africa several times. and several different countries. I am always amazed how Africans view my country and my people! no we are not a perfect country. I would be the first to admit this fact. Especially since I am a Afro-American man. the fact is this! most Americans do not give a damm about Africa or what happens there! we are a racist country that could care less about a continent full of black people.and here you are arguing about what it means for our president to come to your countries. personally I myself love Africa. I love the land and its people. But what I see of Africa is a continent of corrupt abusive governments that do not give a damm about their people. and only want to rape the land and its people of its riches and wealth. this has been going on since slavery days. and looks like it will continue until man is no longer on this earth. i have no hope for most of Africa. its seems they will never learn from their mistakes. and the rest of the world does not care what happens to africa or its people. as long as we get our riches of gold, oil and other valuable things that the world needs from Africa. Africa it seems will never grow up and get rid of the label of being backwards and stupid. the world will continue to use and abuse Africa as long as its people continue to settle for the tyrants that abuse them and rob them of there god given birth rites of rich lands and cultures.when will the people of Africa rise up and get rid of these oppressors that are continuely using them and their lands. and keeping them stupid and in the dark with the poor education systems that do not allow people to really know what is happening to them. WAKE UP MOTHER AFRICA AND RID YOURSELVES OF THESE OPPRESSORS THAT KEEP YOU FROM BEING THE GREATEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE WAITING FOR. GET RID OF THESES IDIOTS THAT ARE RULING YOU NOW. BE FREE AT LAST. YES WE BLACKS IN AMERICA HAVE MUCH TO LEARN AND DO FOR OURSELVES ALSO. I AM AWARE OF THIS ALSO. WE TOO HAVE MANY PROBLEMS THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS. BUT NOW I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT US. I AM TALKING ABOUT MY ANCESTERY, MY FAR OFF HOMELAND. THAT I WANT TO SEE PROSPER. NO!! It is not our president that you should be focusing on here. but how to improve your own situation there in Africa by your own devices.get your act together at home first. before you worry about the U.S. and what you think that we are in Africa for. you will be more valuable to us when you finally become a more democratic and caring and prosperous place. clean up your own house first before you decide to figure out what we are coming there for.you may be surprised what will happen when the sick continent called Africa finally get well and is not sick and backward anymore.
Rawlings’ Togo Bandits in The Gambia??? Dida Halake Explains!!!
The recent failed coup attempt in Togo casts some light on rebel activities in that country – and somehow links it to the pictured gentleman’s activities in The Gambia. The first coup attempt was against late President Eyadema and it was organized according to reliable information from Jerry Rawlings Ghana by Gilchrist Olympio, the current Opposition Leader who has just legged it to Ghana. When Gilchrist sent in his boys prematurely so as to make himself the President should the coup succeed, Rawlings was mad and summoned him to The Castle in the middle of the night. Jerry put the trembling Gilchrist under house arrest for 2 years for his impetuous behaviour which resulted in the failure of the coup attempt. Olympio’s nephew Lucian Agbeko Kwame Hounkanlil Olympio (pictured) was convicted in absentia and he ran away to Europe (He has since confessed to his key role in that earlier coup). From London where he now teaches, he has been able to continue clandestine political work and there is some claim that he and the Togo Opposition clandestinely supported last month’s failed coup attempt too – then immediately writing the post-coup Press Release from London to absolve Gilchrist Olympio.
For the Olympios it really is a matter of revenge against the Eyadema’s. The late President Eyadema overthrew and executed the First President of Togo the dictatorial Sylvanus Olympio in 1963. The second generation of Olympios which includes Rawlings (who some claim is really Togolese) have not forgiven the Eyadema’s and are determined to overthrow them. It is almost an ancient biblical tribal feud that the Olympios are embarked on.
Lucian Olympio is a regular visitor to The Gambia through his former girlfriend. The girlfriend dumped him for fellow Fula man Jungo Bah, former diplomat to Belgium. Apparently, Olympio has a group of his “boys” in The Gambia and they were sent to visit the ex-girlfriend in the Cotton Club. Lucian Olympio’s financial clout is such that he was not only able to get away with invading Jungo Bah’s home and confronting Jungo Bah’s wife (about Jungo snatching girlfriend!), but he was also able to get an NIA senior official called “George” to visit and warn Jungo Bah. The Gambian girlfriend of Jungo Bah’s remains faithful to Jungo Bah. Olympio has also been seeking alliance with a certain influential Gambian to pressurise Jungo Bah, but the Gambian has wisely declined – inspite of Olympio’s occasional remittances. But Olympio’s boys still remain there, so beware Mr. Jungo Bah!!! Although I am proud to say that although Gambians may receive “remittances” out of need, they do not necessarily follow this up with harassing fellow Gambians on behalf of such unscrupulous people. In other countries, as we all know, they would kill somebody innocent just for a “remittance”!
The Olympio’s are a Mulatto mix and light-skinned. To this day it is understood that many still try to keep their skin light through marriage to other light-skinned people (To his credit, Jerry Rawlings had the guts to marry a beautiful dark-skinned African woman whom he still loves – nice peace on skin colour issues last week Watchman!). Until the abolition of slavery, the Mulatto Olympio’s related to the white slave traders through blood were slave dealers selling black Africans to be transported across the Atlantic. To this day the Mulatto Olympios consider themselves superior to darker-skinned Black Africans like the Eyadema’s and the majority Togolese. Just as happened with the “Americo-Liberian” rule of the Tubman’s in Liberia in the 1980s when Samuel Doe led a coup, the Black Africans resented this condenscending attitude. That led to the deposing and assassination of President Olympio in 1963 and the assumption of power by Eyadema.
But we hope the youngest Olympio is not planning the next move against the Eyadema’s from The Gambia, for peaceful Gambia will never tolerate such a thing against any of our African neighbours. Anyhow, would-be coupists and revolutionaries should remain level headed and certainly keep their eyes on the ball – hot-headed passion may expose their stories to journalists like us when they pursue their jealousy too far!
PS. On my plans for writing this piece being discovered, I was threatened with all sorts of calamities. Two strangers visited my home in Kotu pretending to be state security and asking for me. I have ascertained from authorities that these chaps are simply bandits and they have been reported to Kotu Police Station

It affords me a great pleasure to write this comment via AllAfrica.com which is in the groove to reach the entire Africa.I'm to comment about Obama's visit to Ghana. To me I don't see anything cranky about his visit to Ghana. If Obama prefers to visit Chad ahead of Nigeria,South Africa and Libya. All Africa should be proud to welcome him.His reasons to visit Ghana ahead of his father's country Kenya is best known to him.The AU chairman should also use that avenue to to speak with him on the importance of the All Africa Uniting together. With all this discriminations from various countries of Africa shows that Africa has not come of age to Unite as one Nation or Union. While the Au chairman Muhammed Gadaffi is trying his level best to Unite Africa, his people are back home as well planning on how to make life worst for fellow Africans Come June 2009.Titled "All Africa must Go"They asked all the non-citizens in thier Country to Leave before June or face Evacuation. This is no more rumour, we have heard the all the details. What is the future of Africa continenet? Many Africans risked their Lifes to Europe and they were given papers. why not Africa to Africa? For some somebody to risk his life in the desert and fellow Africa man instead to rescue you prefers to shoot you. This is Libya for you!Is that how we are going to unite? So many factors has to be considered before agreeing to such agenda.Chuks L.O,Tripoli,Libya.
